Of all the new shows this season, it seems like NBC has the highest hopes for The Event. How did the new show do in the ratings? Will it be the next Lost or the next FlashForward?
The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a young man who’s investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend. He slowly begins to uncover the biggest cover-up in the history of the United States. Others in the cast include Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Clifton Collins Jr., Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich, Zeljko Ivanek, and Blair Underwood.
The first episode attracted an average 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.9 million total viewers. It was in third place in both areas, though it did tie CBS’ Mike & Molly for second place in the demo in the second half hour.

This was a big improvement over last season’s Heroes premiere and built on the Chuck lead-in by 80%. That’s impressive. What’s more, viewership grew as the hour progressed, meaning that people stuck with it and new people even joined in midway.
While this performance is positive, it’s not as big a start as the network wanted. The real test will be to see how well The Event holds up over the next few weeks. AS you may remember, ABC’s FlashForward started with very healthy numbers but viewership dwindled each week and it was ultimately cancelled after one season.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Event? Is it confusing or intriguing? Will you keep watching or should it be cancelled?

LOVE THE SHOW, IF YOU GUYS CANCEL IT I AM GIVING UP ON ANYTHING NEW YOU SHOW, YOU PUT YOUR VIEWERS IN A BAD SPOT WHEN YOU JUST DROP NEW SHOWS, AT LEAST COMMIT TO A FULL SEASON AND END IT (DON-T LEAVE EVERYONE HANGING)
Finally a really good show not another CSI Or Law and order to many of them all the same subject this was really interesting
I thought it was a great show I just don’t understand why you have all the good shows on the same night and nothing good on the rest of the week.
Love the show… hope it continues.
its pretty sad they cancel a show that was very intriguing, and then all of a sudden, its gone.I hope they bring it back,it was done well.
i really like this show when is next one
great show! keep it please!
Great show. Give it a chance. Do not cancel it – please. It keeps you interested and in suspense each week.
Will there be an episode 11 or was 10 the last one?
@tim: It returns in three months.
Yes! I loved the Event! Just wondering when the next one would be on. Feels like a combination of 24 and Lost! My last 2 favorites in one.
the event is a great show, unfortunately the average American doesnt like to think. How many lame comedy shows can people watch? Hopefully nbc will give it a real shot at catching on.
I love The Event!!Started watching on the first episode and couldn’t wait for the next show every week! Can’t wait to see what happens next!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE SHOW!! And whoever discontinues it will be doing me a great injustice. It’s just thrilling. I have only seen up to episode 4 and am crying out for me. I love the suspense and I would be crushed if it was dropped. At least complete the first season. I notice you’ve gone up to episode 10 and that’s great news.
i like the concept of this show the only issue is the lead female actress, she really is bad actor and drags the other good actors down with her. Besides her bad acting i do want to see more of the plot before i deem it cancel worthy maybe the writers could take a look at what kinds of things killed other great shows, for instance x-files was a great awesome show for like 5 seasons but at the last 2 seasons they totaly lost it, and the second x files movie even further pissed true fans off, they also… Read more »
My wife and I love the Event. My Wife is so upset that it was not on tonight. Yes it is a little confusing, but now we are lost not knowing what the real Event is. Don’t leave everybody in suspense. No we did not like “lost” “flash Forward” was too confusing, and “Jericho” was just a waiste of time.
I have watched all the Event episodes. I also watched all the Flash Forward episodes. I get really angry when they are cancelled in favor of some slapstick comedy. Does every show have to have the highest rating. I spend money too but when you cancel my shows your products miss out. By the way I am 62 years old and retired.
