Of all the new shows this season, it seems like NBC has the highest hopes for The Event. How did the new show do in the ratings? Will it be the next Lost or the next FlashForward?
The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a young man who’s investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend. He slowly begins to uncover the biggest cover-up in the history of the United States. Others in the cast include Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Clifton Collins Jr., Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich, Zeljko Ivanek, and Blair Underwood.
The first episode attracted an average 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.9 million total viewers. It was in third place in both areas, though it did tie CBS’ Mike & Molly for second place in the demo in the second half hour.

This was a big improvement over last season’s Heroes premiere and built on the Chuck lead-in by 80%. That’s impressive. What’s more, viewership grew as the hour progressed, meaning that people stuck with it and new people even joined in midway.
While this performance is positive, it’s not as big a start as the network wanted. The real test will be to see how well The Event holds up over the next few weeks. AS you may remember, ABC’s FlashForward started with very healthy numbers but viewership dwindled each week and it was ultimately cancelled after one season.

I watched because of the pre-launch hype. It was different – not good or bad, just different. I stuck with it and as the characters became more defined, and the plot more involved, I actually started to enjoy it more and more with each episode. I am looking forward to the new series of episodes. The event is well written, well acted and indeed, different.
i love the event i’m a huge fan . but nbc is kinda of a run around bull **** channel premering things and taking them away . nbc you got rid of heroes, persons unkown, and other shows with promise please don’t cancel the event. besides chuck and minute to win it if you cancel the event i will have no real reason to watch nbc and probably will not. if they do cancel the event it would be nice if the cw picked it up like they did to moonlight . the cw i would have to agree does… Read more »

It might interest the network to know that my husband (81) and I (76) very much liked The Event and feared that after the holidays it might disappear. It’s not on tonight, which darkens my mood and I fear the worst. All I’m saying is that the demographics are very mixed. It doesn’t attract just the younger viewers.
You just have to pay attention to the show, it isn’t mindless television (like Dancing with the Stars). We enjoy the show. Hope it returns. WE enjoyed other mystery type shows, they disappear…it’s a mystery.
why happen to THE EVENT its not airring anymore after the tenth episode
We watched it until we got more interested in Dance with the Stars. I think that is what got in the way of The Event.

Unfortunately The Event will get cancelled, because of low ratings. It really ticks me off that I put the time in to watch The Event, only to find out it’s getting cancelled. It seems like the networks put a show on for 8 episodes, take it off the air and then put it back on months later. People don’t always know when it’s coming back on, not to mention the loss of interest. Perfect case in point, the show V, I doubt it will make it past the first season, after a 6 month break. The Event is hard to catch when one has a busy life. Keep the series going. I don’t wanna see a cancle series like (my top favorite show The Unit) and flashfoward.
I enjoy the show very much. And I really like the angle NBC is taking with ET concept and the flashbacks. Do not cancel it. Great actors, so far good stories, and I have high hopes it will be better than Lost or Flash Forward. =)

You have to keep it its very good I look forward to monday night and this could really happen. I dont find it confusing at all. I was just trying to find when the season premier was going to start.
I wasn’t originally going to watch this series. I thought the commercials were over dramatic and the series was a “Lost” wannabe. I did happen to see the first episode though, and from there I was hooked. The Event is a very good show which keeps you on your toes. It borrows pieces from a couple different shows, but overall it is quite original. I hope NBC keeps it!
I love the series. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled. I like the mystery to it. I look forward seeing it on Monday evenings. If I’m not at home I record it. I haven’t missed an episode yet. Looking forward to next season.
