Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I would agree that a fourth season of the game would be worth investing in. CW’s big mistake was changing the air date; they effective lead to the down fall of the show; it was hid and seek trying to find when the show would air again. I believe that if the show is aired in a consisent timeslot it would revive the show.
I’d like to boycot the CW network. Who wants to keep seeing shows about rich white folks, and one or two token blacks? The game was the show that I stopped going to high school football games for on friday nights. I hate the cancellation.
Its sad when they leave fans in the wind I think they should a least give us one more season I think it would be well worth BETs time and we would have a proper good bye.
I love the game. I didnt start watching the game until almost the end of the 3rd season. I happen to come across it by chance and was automatically addicting. I frantically searched, looking for the episodes i missed… finally finding them on BET. I was very disappointed to find that the show had been cancelled, it’s one of the best shows that Ive seen in a while. WE NEEEEEED “THE GAME”!!! This is THE BEST show ever!!! Fans will watch the reruns all day long, but WE do need new espisodes. I refuse for another good show to go off air without putting up a fight. There are way to many comments posted for someones network not to take notice!!! Please keep “The Game” on air!! Come on BET, make us proud. Bring back the entire cast, we’ll even take some new ones, just bring our favorite show back. they have to pick up “the game.” it brings in all sorts of demographic which would be great for any network. i need a “game” fix! re-runs just won’t cut it. PLEASEEEEE bring it back. i am a dedicated fan!
I love The Game, it’s a damm shame that really good shows like this never get to last long, or let me be trueful and say, that it’s a damm shame that good black shows don’t get to stay on the air for long. The local channels always give us really good black shows just long enough to to teas us then they snatch them from us, that’s wrong, then they leave stupid **** on tv like The Simpsons, and all that stupid stuff thats on the CW now, and on all of the local channels now, I don’t even… Read more »
The Game is so realistic and funny. One of the best, no, the Best sitcom in years. This is better than The Jeffersons and Good Times, it’s one of those shows the whole family is eager to watch. Please let there be a Season 4. We gotta know how things work out between, Derwin and Melanie. Not to mention if Tasha is gonna get Kelly back for knocking her out. I am so disappointed by the idea of The Game even being considered cancelled. This is a great show. I absolutely love it!! I would watch the show on whatever channel it moved to and at whatever time it aired. I would have a problem if the cast changed. Because I have gotten use to the current cast and they all play they roles to a T. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!! Please keep this show on.
I just want to say that I’ve been a very big fan of the show “The Game” since the very first episode. I would love to see it come back again. I have everyone I know glued into this show including co-workers! I love the cast so much and would love to meet them all one day. PLEASE COME BACK!! I think the show should go on because it didnt end correctly and if it was brodcasted on Bet It would have more views it is the first show that i actually waited to get out of school to watch thats how good the show is I WOULD LOVE FOR THERE TO BE A 4th SEASON SO I HOPE THEY CUT A DEAL WITH BET
