Rumors are flying once again that the cancelled show, The Game, has been picked up by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a fourth season. Is it really true this time?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
When The CW cancelled the show last Spring, there was talk that BET was interested picking up the show for another year. The biggest issue would be finances but, since additional episodes would make the studio more money in syndication, it’s in CBS Television Studios’ best interests to work something out. Since BET is a cable channel they likely wouldn’t be able to afford the show “as is” so there would have to be some cost-cutting involved.
Last month, rumors started to circulate that a deal had finally been made. Unfortunately the gossip wasn’t accurate. Via Twitter, Mowry wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

Last week, Sister 2 Sister interviewed Drew Sidora. The singer/actress had guest-starred on a few episodes and, in the interview, indicated that a deal with BET had been sealed. She said, “The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET… It is official. The deal has been done.”
Sidora continued, “Everybody that petitioned — believe it or not — about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up. It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”
Of the possibility that some of the cast might not be returning, Sidora commented, “I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back.”
As happy as that news is making longtime fans of the show, Sidora seems to be the only one who’s aware of it. BET and CBS Television aren’t making announcements about the deal and the stars of the show don’t seem to know anything about it.
On Friday, Mowry Twittered the reality of the situation, “A lot of people are asking about The Game again, and I have to say honestly I personally have not heard anything!” She followed that up with, “This has really been a roller coaster and I feel bad that I have no new news on the topic. :(”
It’s unclear where Sidora got her information but one would assume that the show’s star would be kept in the loop. If Mowry’s to be part of it, she’d have to agree to a new contract and that would presumably include a pay cut.
In addition, series creator Akil is still working on ABC’s Cougar Town. That show was just given a full season order so she’s going to be busy.
So, once again, there doesn’t seem to be any deal to bring back The Game. It may still happen but signs indicate it’s not happening yet.

Please bring The Game back, I want to know what happen with Melanie and Derwin, and I don’t believe that the baby is Derwin son. Everytime a African American show get high rates, they cancelled it. Let 90210 grow up and move on because we been down that road before.
This was a very good show. African americans barely have series on T.V. and when we do, why does the shows always have to get cancelled? and what the hell happend to Everybody Hates Chris? This is just not right, because obviously there are many fans of these great shows.
WHY WHY WHY is it that everytime you get a good black sitcom going you cancel it ? Maybe you should cancel the persons job that makes these decisions. First to go Girlfriends then Will & Jadas show now the Game.

Please bring this show back! There are a lot of things that ard left unsaid, I think Jonay baby isn’t for Derwin and I think Kelly and Jason will get back together. So we are still watching reruns and waiting for another season.
I absolutely love the game!!! There were so many episodes that I missed but thanks to BET I’ve caught up on, but now they need to pick it back up. Both women and men love this show. It’s typical to the things that happen in everyday life. Please, Please, Please BET, pick this show back up. It’s the topic of Facebook!

i loved and enjoyed the game it reminds me so much of every day life and what could possible go wrong when we take someone we love for granted.{in the case of derwin and melanie} i love the two of them so much. please keep the show going , it is worth the wait . and am still watching the reruns
i love the game it was getting good until BAM! it was canceled they need to put back on im tired of the old episodes.

OMG!!!!THE GAME IS SO ADDICTIVE….. I WOULD SCHEDULE MY WORK AROUND THIS SHOW…..IT WAS THAT SERIOUS……I TOLD ALL MY COWORKERS ABOUT IT AND LADIES AT THE SALON I GO TO. WE ACTUALLY WATCH THE RE-RUNS ON BET IN THE SALON. THE GAME IS FIIIIIYYYYAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
Well I honestly am a huge of the game and will support watever happens????????????I just wish the show wouldn’t of ended that way??????????????????But yes its mind boggling to follow whats going to happen next and yes the game is worth waiting for because honestly its better than all they lame ass white t.v. shows but ain’t nobody cancelling them or putting them in a situation like this…………………….Big ups to everybody on the game and I really wish I could of have seen more because it more than a sitcom..it was real life issues in there that i could relate to… Read more »
Seriouly I need to see a good finale. The whole cast please come. I don’t get tired of watching reruns of it lol. I drive my BF crazy. The just left us hanging like Derwin left Melanie t the altar. That’s just wrong. I hope the tuners are true and it comes back on soon. Weekdays weeknights any time man. I will be there!!!!!
