Rumors are flying once again that the cancelled show, The Game, has been picked up by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a fourth season. Is it really true this time?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
When The CW cancelled the show last Spring, there was talk that BET was interested picking up the show for another year. The biggest issue would be finances but, since additional episodes would make the studio more money in syndication, it’s in CBS Television Studios’ best interests to work something out. Since BET is a cable channel they likely wouldn’t be able to afford the show “as is” so there would have to be some cost-cutting involved.
Last month, rumors started to circulate that a deal had finally been made. Unfortunately the gossip wasn’t accurate. Via Twitter, Mowry wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

Last week, Sister 2 Sister interviewed Drew Sidora. The singer/actress had guest-starred on a few episodes and, in the interview, indicated that a deal with BET had been sealed. She said, “The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET… It is official. The deal has been done.”
Sidora continued, “Everybody that petitioned — believe it or not — about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up. It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”
Of the possibility that some of the cast might not be returning, Sidora commented, “I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back.”
As happy as that news is making longtime fans of the show, Sidora seems to be the only one who’s aware of it. BET and CBS Television aren’t making announcements about the deal and the stars of the show don’t seem to know anything about it.
On Friday, Mowry Twittered the reality of the situation, “A lot of people are asking about The Game again, and I have to say honestly I personally have not heard anything!” She followed that up with, “This has really been a roller coaster and I feel bad that I have no new news on the topic. :(”
It’s unclear where Sidora got her information but one would assume that the show’s star would be kept in the loop. If Mowry’s to be part of it, she’d have to agree to a new contract and that would presumably include a pay cut.
In addition, series creator Akil is still working on ABC’s Cougar Town. That show was just given a full season order so she’s going to be busy.
So, once again, there doesn’t seem to be any deal to bring back The Game. It may still happen but signs indicate it’s not happening yet.

Please bring the game back. With hard time and stressful situations like not working. The game really gave us something to look forward to. It also kept my family together because this was something that we all watched and loved. Please bring it back.
this is my favorite tv show and i really hope that bet get the chance to pick it back up.
I am not African American & I absolutely adore this show. I began watching the syndication shows on BET. I wish they would bring the show back. The last episode was so perfect ( i cried my eyes out).
It would be some of the best tv news for 2010 if they decide to bring the show back. LOVE THE WHOLE CAST!!!
I really love love love this show and I feel that BET should support and pick up the show. Why not??? We do need some new entertainment instead of constantly watching reapeats and making BET a little more interesting than what it is at this preensent time. The only show that BET has that is current is 106 and Park. PLease bring this back this show is really really brilliant….

I dont know why this show got cancelled. It was one the best blacks shows that was on TV. I hate that its not on. Put it back. BET should pick it up or TV one and support its one, why have a channel for our people and then only play reruns when you can start new ones. Instead of playing the same bet awards hip hop awards and same repeats over and over.

I loved the Game. It was far better than some of the nonsense that’s on television. The have some of the silliest programs that come on and because of this a lot of times I cut the tv off.Please bring it back. My 11 year daughter loves it also.
Please bring back THE GAME!!!!!! I conected so much with all three of the women in so many different ways. Some things that they wen’t through helped me to get through certain situations. Plus Pooh Hall and Hosea are both soooooo fine. I want to see what hapens with Melanie and Derwin (Janae and DJ) Tasha and Rick. Malik and all his girls. “TT “sorry Terrance is super funny. LOL…and Jason and Kelly… So please, please, please BRING BACK THE GAME!!!!!!!
I really miss The Game and I wish that BET or Somebody would pick up the fourth season. This is the first show actually that I sit down and look at and don’t do anything else. This is a very interesting, fun show that keeps me going. My whole family enjoys the show and thinks that it is well worth waiting for and yes it’s definitely driving me crazy to know if it will come back somewhere! I would definitely also like to see how everything worked out with the cast especially Jason Pitts & Kelly Pitts.
I would love nothing more than for the show to come back……. so willing to wait. I hope a decision is made in the near future. Im so wanting to know what happens with Derwin and Melanie now being married, and Derwin being a father… Rick and Tasha if they get back together… Jason and Kelly and what happens after he leaves the courthouse with Camille. Sooooooooo very much to look foward to, so I really hope they make something happen.

Who are the department heads of CW who made the decision to cut the show? What were the reasons for doing so? They seem not to be the smartest! How do you discontinue a show that millions want to watch? This network is loosing all credibility.
