Rumors are flying once again that the cancelled show, The Game, has been picked up by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a fourth season. Is it really true this time?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
When The CW cancelled the show last Spring, there was talk that BET was interested picking up the show for another year. The biggest issue would be finances but, since additional episodes would make the studio more money in syndication, it’s in CBS Television Studios’ best interests to work something out. Since BET is a cable channel they likely wouldn’t be able to afford the show “as is” so there would have to be some cost-cutting involved.
Last month, rumors started to circulate that a deal had finally been made. Unfortunately the gossip wasn’t accurate. Via Twitter, Mowry wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

Last week, Sister 2 Sister interviewed Drew Sidora. The singer/actress had guest-starred on a few episodes and, in the interview, indicated that a deal with BET had been sealed. She said, “The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET… It is official. The deal has been done.”
Sidora continued, “Everybody that petitioned — believe it or not — about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up. It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”
Of the possibility that some of the cast might not be returning, Sidora commented, “I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back.”
As happy as that news is making longtime fans of the show, Sidora seems to be the only one who’s aware of it. BET and CBS Television aren’t making announcements about the deal and the stars of the show don’t seem to know anything about it.
On Friday, Mowry Twittered the reality of the situation, “A lot of people are asking about The Game again, and I have to say honestly I personally have not heard anything!” She followed that up with, “This has really been a roller coaster and I feel bad that I have no new news on the topic. :(”
It’s unclear where Sidora got her information but one would assume that the show’s star would be kept in the loop. If Mowry’s to be part of it, she’d have to agree to a new contract and that would presumably include a pay cut.
In addition, series creator Akil is still working on ABC’s Cougar Town. That show was just given a full season order so she’s going to be busy.
So, once again, there doesn’t seem to be any deal to bring back The Game. It may still happen but signs indicate it’s not happening yet.

I absolutely love the Game, I was sad to here that the CW was cancelling it. BET would gain a huge audience by bringing it back.
You have to bring this show back! It finished well not so good. It left us wondering what happen to mel and derwin,jason and kelly,and of course tasha and red fox! Please you really want to pick up where they left off. after all it was the cw lost and it definatly will be BET’S gain. We have to support this show. it’s a must. I PROMISE WHENEVER I COME HOME AFTER A LONG DAY’S WORK, THE ONLY THING ON MY MIND IS WHAT MELANIE CHOSE TO DO ABOUT HER RELATIONSHIP WITH DERWIN….I JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THE GAME, IT IS AN ABSOLUTE THRILLING AND DRAMATIC SHOW. THE BEST SHOW I HAVE WATCHED IN A VERY LONG TIME…NOTHING COMPARES. JUST DO EVERYONE IN MY HOUSEHOLD A FAVOR AND BRING THE GAME BACK.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes Yes Yes, please bring this show back. I love all the characters, even Jason who gets me so mad sometimes. Plus, how do Mel and Derwin work out their marriage with Derwins new son, will Tasha and Rick get back together, and do Jason and Kelly work it all out, especially after she tried to fix everything? Please, please, please, bring back The Game!!!!

I really hope that they decide to bring it back to television. I really enjoyed that show and I would have loved to see what they intended on doing with the characters after the last show aired. I hope that BET can pick the show up where it left off.
It really was a good show with good writing, good actors, etc.
I hope they don’t decide not to pursue this because the “Game” had a lot of viewers, and fans of the show.

you can’t end a show like that. we need to know if jason and kelly are going to get back together. if janay’s baby is really derwins. and what happens to tasha and kelly’s friendship, does tasha maarry rick. please bring back The Game.
It is taking too long for them to bring it back. They have lost alot of fans in the wait and through the whole back and forth rumors. It was an excellent show but sad to say it just may be best to leave as is. The season finale was one of the greatest and i feel it just may not be the same or just as good coming back from all the drama. The Game has been a light in my life, my marriage, and I just love the show. It has became one of my all time favorite t.v. shows, and I have been waiting for the return of it. I am begging BET to please continue this show, because since it has left, t.v. has not been the same for me:(.. PLEASE!

Pleaseeeeeeeee…..bring this show back!!!! Its been too long and the repeats are just holding us together….but we need the continuation to this storyline….the cast is great and r truly missed!!! Come on BET pick up this show….definitely a profit sitcom
