Rumors are flying once again that the cancelled show, The Game, has been picked up by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a fourth season. Is it really true this time?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
When The CW cancelled the show last Spring, there was talk that BET was interested picking up the show for another year. The biggest issue would be finances but, since additional episodes would make the studio more money in syndication, it’s in CBS Television Studios’ best interests to work something out. Since BET is a cable channel they likely wouldn’t be able to afford the show “as is” so there would have to be some cost-cutting involved.
Last month, rumors started to circulate that a deal had finally been made. Unfortunately the gossip wasn’t accurate. Via Twitter, Mowry wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

Last week, Sister 2 Sister interviewed Drew Sidora. The singer/actress had guest-starred on a few episodes and, in the interview, indicated that a deal with BET had been sealed. She said, “The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET… It is official. The deal has been done.”
Sidora continued, “Everybody that petitioned — believe it or not — about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up. It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”
Of the possibility that some of the cast might not be returning, Sidora commented, “I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back.”
As happy as that news is making longtime fans of the show, Sidora seems to be the only one who’s aware of it. BET and CBS Television aren’t making announcements about the deal and the stars of the show don’t seem to know anything about it.
On Friday, Mowry Twittered the reality of the situation, “A lot of people are asking about The Game again, and I have to say honestly I personally have not heard anything!” She followed that up with, “This has really been a roller coaster and I feel bad that I have no new news on the topic. :(”
It’s unclear where Sidora got her information but one would assume that the show’s star would be kept in the loop. If Mowry’s to be part of it, she’d have to agree to a new contract and that would presumably include a pay cut.
In addition, series creator Akil is still working on ABC’s Cougar Town. That show was just given a full season order so she’s going to be busy.
So, once again, there doesn’t seem to be any deal to bring back The Game. It may still happen but signs indicate it’s not happening yet.

I agree..I didn’t know The Game existed until it aired on BET. It’s really a great show and keeps me laughing. It has just the right balance of comedy and drama…it’s not overboard like soap operas. I love The Game and watch it every morning and afternoon. I think if it gets the correct publicity Season 4 could be a huge hit as well as many seasons after that. Plus my boyfriend just loves Brittany Daniel.
I am completely obsessed. I am a late bloomer and Game fan,but I DVR every episode and cant stop watching. I pray that it is picked up. I think that the CW did a horrible job marketing the show. I for one didnt know it existed until after BET began showing it. I am confident that will great marketing strategy and the on going support that dedicated fans have shown, the show will be a success in the seasons to come.
I love dis show so much….please have a season four & please put the rest of the seasons on dvd…so i can purchase them….I wanna see wats going on….thanks!
The Game was a hit when it first landed on the CW. For them to just cut the show and leave the world hanging the way they did, was so wrong. They talk about viewers stop watching, no they gave it the worst time slot there was Friday nights and eight o’clock! Friday’s are typically crazy so by the time I get home it’s late and I’m tired. I would love for BET to pick up the game its like no other show thats airing right now its one of a kind, people are looking forward to the show coming back, who wants the show to end with derwin and melanie gettimg married, thats not fare to all viewers. You guys have us fall in love with this show and turn around and cancel, its better than any show thats on tv right now. I STARTED WATCHING THE GAME ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, I JUST HAPPEN TO LUCK UP ON IT ONE DAY WHEN I WAS CHANNEL SURFING, AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE CAST, AND THE PLOTS OF THE SHOW( I NEVER SAW ANY ADVERTISMENTS, OR PROMOTIONS CONCERNING THE GAME) I WATCH ALL OF THE RE-RUNS, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE RE-RUNS THAT BET SHOWS. I love the TV show the game. I think that it is such a same not just a good muti cultral show but all around good show gets canceled.with real life issue. I am just disappointed by the cancellation
I’m from the Caribbean and I have never been drawn to a TV Series like this before, I agree with the previous comment it’s a reality based series, so many people can relate too. I love the the cast members, Derwin is so cute. Compared to the other CW series ‘the game’ is a hit. I still can’t comprehend why it was canceled. I really hope another channel would pick up the series soon.

the game is the best man…. till this day i’m upset because they don’t have a fourth season.. the game is worth waiting for but just hurry… i love that show! between them other shows on CW those the ones that should of been cancelled. you can’t compare the game to any other show on CW…

.. I love the game, it is such a taste of reality as to what im currently dealing it. I look forward to getting off work the days the show aired. I THINK THE LOW VIEWS CAME FROM THE DAYS AND THE show switching networks and no one knowing the Exact time when it was coming on.

I love this show so much and the final episode of season 3 left so much open doors for more. How can we the viewers be satisfied with Jason and Kelly breaking up, Melanie and Derwin getting married with a new baby in their life and Tasha and Rick Fox getting back together. WE NEED TO SEE THE CONCLUSION OF ALL THIS. They need to do something about bringing a 4th season in.
