Rumors are flying once again that the cancelled show, The Game, has been picked up by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a fourth season. Is it really true this time?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
When The CW cancelled the show last Spring, there was talk that BET was interested picking up the show for another year. The biggest issue would be finances but, since additional episodes would make the studio more money in syndication, it’s in CBS Television Studios’ best interests to work something out. Since BET is a cable channel they likely wouldn’t be able to afford the show “as is” so there would have to be some cost-cutting involved.
Last month, rumors started to circulate that a deal had finally been made. Unfortunately the gossip wasn’t accurate. Via Twitter, Mowry wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

Last week, Sister 2 Sister interviewed Drew Sidora. The singer/actress had guest-starred on a few episodes and, in the interview, indicated that a deal with BET had been sealed. She said, “The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET… It is official. The deal has been done.”
Sidora continued, “Everybody that petitioned — believe it or not — about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up. It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”
Of the possibility that some of the cast might not be returning, Sidora commented, “I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back.”
As happy as that news is making longtime fans of the show, Sidora seems to be the only one who’s aware of it. BET and CBS Television aren’t making announcements about the deal and the stars of the show don’t seem to know anything about it.
On Friday, Mowry Twittered the reality of the situation, “A lot of people are asking about The Game again, and I have to say honestly I personally have not heard anything!” She followed that up with, “This has really been a roller coaster and I feel bad that I have no new news on the topic. :(”
It’s unclear where Sidora got her information but one would assume that the show’s star would be kept in the loop. If Mowry’s to be part of it, she’d have to agree to a new contract and that would presumably include a pay cut.
In addition, series creator Akil is still working on ABC’s Cougar Town. That show was just given a full season order so she’s going to be busy.
So, once again, there doesn’t seem to be any deal to bring back The Game. It may still happen but signs indicate it’s not happening yet.

Please, Please, bring back season 4 of the Game. I have been looking @ reruns of the show on BET over and over again, that’s how much i LOVE this show. The show is AWESOME. BET, Please pick up this show. Enough of our black sitcoms have been canceled.
Please you have to bring this show back for a season 4 and more to come. I also believe that cw did a horrible job advertising this show because I did not know about it until it aired on BET and since the first episode I’ve seen I’ve been hooked every since.. Its like a drug.my boyfriend and brothers even love the show.please u have to keep this show going!!!
i really love watching the game every since they took it off of upn and put it wb they where trying to cut the show they put it on a friday at 7 that was a bad time from the get go for african american people and they knew that but i think bet should pick it up i obvious that people our people wanna see it so it will be very sucessful thanks please 🙂 :):)”

Please return The Game. TV has become a big reality show we need some real shows back such as this one
Please return THE GAME. BET needs to support what they stand for and that is great BLACK ENTERTAINMENT. The way it ended was good but it left all the drama of what could happen next . Why does the show have to leave so many unanswered questions. Entertainment is such politics!
I think The Game should come back because it’s a very good show. I think The CW was crazy to even cancel it. I hope and pray that BET seals the deal and picks the show back up for another year because I’m a huge fan and I was not ready for it to go. I know with BET, The Game will go further than with the CW.
Please BET pick up The Game it is an awesome sitcom. Ever since I watched the show in 2008 I have been hooked. I get really annoyed when I great sitcom gets booted. If you pick this up BET you will have plenty of fans watching just look at your blogs. SO take time listen to the people who watch your network and give us The Game. Thank You.
I just want to say that this show is outstanding. I starting watching it in 2008 and I have just been longing for more ever since. My husband and I agree it’s not one of the best, but the BEST show on tv (which is rare because we don’t like the samethings when it comes to tv). If BET is unable to pick it up maybe TBS – that’s the station with House of Pain and Meet the Brown’s. They could put it on the same night and their ratings which are already great would be Phenomenal! Please, please somebody… Read more »
I LOVE the show and it would be a shame if its over. It is so honest and real. Its something all people can relate to. There arent too many shows you can say that about.
I can’t believe with all the garbage that is on TV, the one positive black sitcom will not be picked up again. What is wrong with BET? Everybody hates Chris…come on now. That show has played out. BET probably gets more viewers watching the re-runs of The Game than any other shows that come on. I am just in awe. If they want to cut something, they need to cut some of the other shows that are completely apalling!!
It’s hard to find any television shows that one can watch and enjoy with co-workers, family and friends! This is the one ! The situation are very close to real-life , not so much as the professional athlete part, butI’m talking about everyday living. single mother raising their children, helping them to become sucessful. Living with the one you love, trying to make it work, baby moma drama. this show is hilarious! im always watching at night on BET. Please renew it! I enjoy this show and it always makes me laugh! its a great show that hints at all of our emotions, please renew it!!
I am not ready to give up….it’s a great show…it’s pretty close to realistic…I have a brother that is ex-NFL so is refreshing to see a lot of reality in the show…it’s very entertaining and I feel the show was sabotaged on purpose by moving it to Friday. I want to see it come back and many people are saying the same…you CAN’T JUST LEAVE US HANING WITH THAT LAST EPISODE….I hated the way they ended Girlfriends…why do all the African-American shows ended with you hanging….that is BULL CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
