To no surprise, FOX’s The Good Guys has been cancelled after one season and 20 episodes. The series stars Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks as an unlikely team of Dallas detectives.
The Good Guys debuted last Spring to a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million total viewers. Over the summer months, the ratings seemed to drop each week, hitting a low of a 1.0 rating and 3.42 million viewers.
Despite the poor showing, FOX kept the series on the fall schedule. On Friday nights, the numbers continued to slide. Good Guys hit a series low on October 22nd with a 0.6 rating and just 2.31 million viewers. Episodes typically ranked in last place for the demo in the timeslot. Realistically, no one has been expecting a second season renewal.
The series was shot on location in Dallas. Janis Burklund, head of the Dallas Film Commission, says that her high-ranking contact at Fox Television Studios has confirmed the show’s cancellation. The network hasn’t officially cancelled it but the production studio won’t be making any more episodes. The local area hasn’t had much luck this season. FOX’s Lone Star was cancelled after just two episodes and the episode order for NBC’s Chase has been reduced.
Of The Good Guys, Burkland said, “We liked the show. And they had a great experience here. But the ratings weren’t good. I asked if there was any shot at cable, and he said there didn’t appear to be any shot at that either, and I think it would have done well on cable. It’s not the kind of show network viewers understand — it’s too quirky. It’s one of those shows where either you get it or you don’t. Where cable viewers are more apt to go sampling and try out different stuff, network viewers are looking for more traditional shows. And it had a horrible time slot.”
The TV show’s sets are still intact at a local Dallas studio but will likely be struck in January. The final episode of Good Guys, titled “Partners,” aired on December 10th.
Update: Hanks confirmed the cancellation via his Twitter account on 12/27/10.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Good Guys has been cancelled and won’t be back for season two?

I like this show a lot. I can’t stand any more of these reality shows.I want to see more shows like this. It’s too bad that overpaid ceo’s don’t know what the hell thier doing! I did not see this show until I had netflix.
Yes! Please renew The Good Guys. The show is quirky, but thats what i loved about it. It had an old school, cop show feel to it. Something lacking in most of the cop shows out today. How many different Law & Order spin-offs do we have to deal with! Give me back the comic relief!!!! Now come on………….LETS GET BACK OUT THERE AND BUST SOME PUNKS!!!
We loved this show and never missed an episode! The character development was perfect and the show always got a few grins along with a good guy wins with an unorthodox method story line. We need shows like this!!!
Another one who found this show on Netflix and loved every episode. Not sure why it didn’t get the ratings it deserved but this show needs to come back. WE DEMAND MORE!
This is a great show! I wish I had known about it when it was on…I just found it on Netflix! Totally bummed to find out it was cancelled. Would have done GREAT on the USA network I’d bet.
We LOVED Good Guy’s!!!
FUNNIEST SHOW, EVER!
LUVED the campy attitude – everything right about a TV Show (all the comedic elements for the most successful shows) existed in Good Guy’s … and the characters, ESPECIALLY the character of Dan Stark had us LOL’ing every episode. Was interesting to watch Colin Hank’s grow, as he became more comfortable in his role too —- PLEASE don’t take away this show and leave us with crap like “Ringer” and and “Playboy Club” some of the other boring, wouldn’t-watch-it-if-you-paid-me-too CRAP they’re launching this fall.
BRING BACK GOOD GUY’S, PLEASE!!!
please renew the good guys, excellant show thought it was great. disappoiting that theres a lot of shows on the networks that are terrible and are still on.
whyyyyyyy!!!????? this is by far the best show i have had the good fortune to see. dan stark is hilarious yet inspiring. if they dont bring this show back, my faith in mankind will have all but disappeared. network viewers, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
This show is hilarious. I did not hear about this show until i started watching it on netflix. Fox should have done a better job publicizing this show or move it to a new time slot. Some one should pick up this show if Fox does not do anything with it. CBS has gone crazy with all of its primetime shows being either NCIS or CSI. They need a comedic show to add to their portfolio.
I really liked the show it was really funny. I will miss it a lot.
My husband and I watched The Good Guys from the start and thought it was hilarious, clever and fun!
We didn’t hear it was canceled and have been looking for news on it. We are sad that Fox and the other major networks keep putting forward the same old crap. We tend to watch shows on the cable networks because they are more interesting and different.
So sad that another one bites the dust.
This show is fantastic. Bring it back on cable! Great to have comedy and drama together in one show; similar to Psych in that regard. The two leads are great together!
I really liked the show, so I’m very disappointed.
Please renew The Good Guys. My wifa nad I found it to be an excellent show. We liked the actors and the writing. Don’t let a good one get away. R/

Loved the show! It was so awesome! Gonna bust some punks!
The world needs mindless, dare i say silliness! Yes we do!
And a little classic rock mixed in as well.
So sorry to see it end. But will keep watchin on netflix
