FOX has decided to wrap their summer run of The Good Guys a few weeks early, on August 2nd. The network had previously planned to air original episodes of the Bradley Whitford / Colin Hanks series until August 23rd.
The series debuted to a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. The numbers have essentially fallen each week and hit a low of a 1.0 rating and 3.42 million viewers.
Despite garnering poor ratings during the summer months, The Good Guys remains on the network’s fall schedule. Original episodes will return to FOX beginning Friday, September 24th. It remains to be seen how long that will last.
FOX has lower expectations for summer shows but it’s hard to believe that the network is pleased with the series’ performance. It seems that they’re keeping it on the fall schedule in hopes that viewers will tune in on Friday nights instead of trying one of the other networks’ new shows.
By the time Good Guys finishes its summer run, FOX will have aired nine original episodes. That will leave 11 new episodes for the fall. The real test will be to see if the network orders any more. Right now, that doesn’t seem likely.
What do you think? Do you like The Good Guys? Do you think it’ll last to see a second season? Should it?

when i first saw it it was ehh, but it has grown on me, i luv the show!!!! fox needs to keep pushing it and showing it alot and people will watch it!!! i mean common they gave till death 3 years this show is alot better and has a better chance of making it!
This show is GREAT. I do hope that Fox sees fit to continue the show.
The Good Guys is an AWESOME Show! I’m glad its staying. . . . last nights episode was great!
I agree, Friday nights is where good shows go to die… it’s too bad. My wife and I really enjoy The Good Guys!.
Of course they’ll cancel it. It’s a good show and what does Fox do to good shows?
I love this show too. Live in Dallas. Hate that it is up against Bachelorette. I know the only “measuring stick” available is Nielsen; however, I can’t help but think that as technology has changed that the target 18 to 49 group is actually DVR’ing and watching online. The show has been heavily promoted locally and on FOX broadcasts, but I would like to see FOX use a more traditional marketing approach during the fall relaunch. Cast has guested on some late night venues (Chelsea Lately, Craig Ferguson, Letterman, and Tavis Smily) but even those I think have small audiences…what… Read more »
The Good Guys just keeps growing on me. There have been some clunky eps for sure, but I thought “Silvio’s Way,” which aired last night, was flat-out hilarious. Whitford doing Brando? Amazing. My sides were still aching from laughter, hours later. Hope we see a full run in the fall.
This is a really funny show; I absolutely love it. Too bad they put it on in the summer when everyone is on vacation. I’m sure that’s why ratings are low. Hope they keep it on for the fall.
I love this show for a number of reasons; it’s lead characters are likeable & fun to watch; it’s criminal characters are funny & either have some good quality which leads to a break for them or so mean that their ironic bad end is satisfying; it’s set in my hometown, Dallas; it’t 80s references are great fun for guys like me who tuned 21 in ’84; and it’s funny, action-packed writing is just plain entertaining. I look forward to seeing it every week with my family & a growing number of friends\fans because it is a light, funny escape… Read more »
It is a good show, but it won’t last. Fox is good a killing good shows. And if they put it on Friday nights, it is guaranteed to fail. That is the place to kill any Fox show. It is the typical way Fox operates.
I love it. It’s funny and a flashback to 70’s cop shows. Also, the music is great.
Please bring it back! I’m 55 so I’m not in the targeted demographic but I LOVE this show! It cracks me up!
It’s an okay show, not the best Matt Nix show on TV right now. I think moving it from Wednesday to Monday was suicide, especially since it’s up against some pretty good shows like “The Closer.”
Hate it! It is a stupid show, poorly acted and needs to disappear. I expected great things from Bradley and Colin but what happened?
Fox did much better with “Mental” as a summer series, At least it was watchable!
Oh I hope so! I love the Good Guys! Please bring it back!
