Third time’s a charm — though not for Greg Behrendt. In the third syndication cancellation in as many weeks, the Tribune group has cancelled freshman The Greg Behrendt Show.
The “self-help” talk show debuted in syndication on September 12, 2006 and was hosted by stand-up comedian and best-selling author Greg Behrendt. Each episode featured Behrendt attempting to change their lives in some way — from cheating boyfriends to lifestyle makeovers. (You can hear one guest’s experience via The Hollywood Podcast.)
The Sony Pictures Television-produced show was cancelled, like most, due to low viewership. In its four months, the “self-help” talk show attracted an average of only 880,000 households (0.8 rating) in daytime. It was tied with the similarly challenged The Megan Mullally Show that will go off the air at the end of this month.
The Behrendt cancellation may also be due to soft sales at the recent syndication show in Vegas as well as Tribune’s desire to sign up for the new The Steve Wilkos Show from NBC Universal. The Wilkos show will offer a different brand of “help” — more along the lines of the Jerry Springer variety. Wilkos was actually a security guard and sometimes replacement for Springer on The Jerry Springer Show for ten years.
The staff of The Greg Behrendt Show was reportedly told of the decision yesterday and production is expected to continue for the immediate future. A mix of original and rerun episodes will likely air until at least May.
I am sorry the show is over. I really did enjoy it. I think they should cancel shows like Jerry or any of the shows that are violent like that. Sorry to see you go, GREG!
I totally agree with ‘Kristy’ who posted on Sept. 10. I couldn’t have said it better myself! It is a sad commentary on out society that people would rather watch that other crap than a funny, compassionate man who truly cares about what he is doing. Nice guys finish last and Greg is one of the nice guys. Here’s to hoping they bring the show back.
It’s such a shame that this was cancelled, while Maury “Paternity Test” Povich goes on and on…
Greg’s books really helped me through some tough times and I loved his show. I can’t believe it was cancelled. He will be missed!
I can’t believe they cancelled Greg’s show and replaced it with a Jerry Springer spin-off! At least, Greg’s show was funny and tried to help people improve their lives. I just don’t feel SONY gave it enough time for people to find it and watch it. It was a “positive” show–where Greg’s good common sense helped people. Sony…it’s your loss of viewers and our loss of a decent show. Too bad for all.
Wow! I kept seeing the ad for different shows to be on at the time where Greg’s show was but I thought maybe Greg’s show was just moving to a new slot. I just found out today that it has been cancelled. I really liked Greg’s humor, wit and kindness in the effort to help people with their problems. I really enjoyed the show and am sorry it was cancelled. Best of luck to Greg in the future and something better will come your way! I’ll be watching for a new show.
Oh no…cancelled…
I enjoyed Greg’s humor, values, and we can’t forget the gregovers.
Why does the network/country prefer heartless mean spirited Jerry Springer type programming?
Bring Greg back!!

I loved this show. I can’t believe it was cancelled! That blows. Greg was entertaining, good looking and smart. I don’t expect everyone to agree..but he was a doer not a talker.
I was a HUGE Dr. Phil fan, then I saw Greg and decided Greg was better for the simple fact when he said lets do it, it was done. When Dr. Phil says lets do it..it could be the next episode or a week later. I love Greg!
Greg Berendt was funny and seemed to me to have a real empathy for people. His “problem,” though, is that he is intelligent and didn’t pander to the lowest common denominator: the salacious, lewd, crude, uncouth, stupid, inbred, borderline retardates that Jerry and Maury appeal to. THAT’S why Greg got the boot. Jerry and Maury are more likely to have guests on that grab the headlines…thus more viewers will tune in, thus more advertising on their shows (because it’s all about the numbers). This (Jerry and Maury) is what we get for being an illiterate society. (Just being able to… Read more »
I love the Greg Behrendt show! He is so funny and entertaining, yet very real and helpful to people. I can’t believe that it’s over already. The worst part is that it has been replaced with yet ANOTHER hour of the stupid Maury show with his monotonous paternity test results. At least I still have Greg’s books, which are wonderful, but I will definitely miss seeing him on TV every day. I sure do wish they would get rid of Jerry Springer or Maury and bring back Greg Behrendt!
i will miss Greg’s show too..i learned a lot from his show and am in the process of reading his books and obtaining the others to help me in the bad relationships i keep getting myself in…and no one polled me neither…BRING GREG BACK!!…(am tired of Oprah, Maury and the like)….luv ya!!
Bring Greg Behrendt Show back please!!!!
He’s a true heart …necessary for this new world of television realism.
Bring Greg Behrendt Show back sooooooooonnnn!
I can’t believe it. The show is great, clean fun; Greg is great- a funny, compassionate, real person and a great writer too (love the book). So it’s better to see Jerry Springer’s outrageous , disgusting, violent show or Maury’s who’s my baby daddy (use condoms or birth control pills already ,or the boring and stupid, fake judge shows? What is are the station heads thinking. His show made my morning more cheerful and funnier and cleaner than Howard Stern! BRING HIM BACK ( if he’ll even come back. WE WANT GREG! Love ya buddy Toby
