There won’t be a third season of The Hour, the BBC Two TV series. The show aired on BBC America here in the States.
Created by Abi Morgan, The Hour is set in the late 1950’s and revolves around a BBC current affairs news show. The dramatic series stars Ben Whishaw, Dominic West, Romola Garai, Anton Lesser, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Joshua McGuire, Lisa Greenwood, Anna Chancellor, Kelly-Jayne Adams. Burn Gorman, Juliet Stevenson, Tim Pigott-Smith, Andrew Scott and Oona Chaplin.
While The Hour was a success in its first season, viewership dropped significantly in season two. There are just 12 episodes total and the finale aired on BBC America on January 2nd.
A representative for BBC Two said, “We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through.”
What do you think? Did you like The Hour? Are you sorry to hear that there won’t be a third season?
The Hour is one of the best shows I have seen. We all wanted to see something of substance to watch during the last few years. Not just entertainment. The storyline and characters from history were riveting. I am sorry there will be no season 3. So many boring shows make it and ones like this one get canceled. Shame
We LOVED this show and would really like you to reconsider a third season. Can’t imagine why viewership dropped for season two as it fulfills season one. Better publicity needed maybe? The actors were amazing, all of them! This show is a gem!
Yes it needs a third season and a forth and fifth and sixth and …
Want a Season 3 of THE HOUR. Shouldn’t leave an audience hanging like that! Excellent acting and interesting mysteries!
Of course there should be a third season. It is a well written and equally well produced program that shouldn’t leave its viewers lying in a grassy field outside the studio.
I am very disappointed there will be no Season 3 of The Hour. I’ve watched every episode with high anticipation and been enthralled every time. It is brilliantly scripted, superbly acted, and expertly filmed. I have not one critique except the decision not to continue for a third season.
I thought The Hour was wonderfully written and acted. The last episode left too many questions unanswered, the most vexing of which was whether Freddie survived. As part of a family made through adoption, I was so happy to see that issue raised in a sub-plot. Perhaps American Public Television could provide financial aid to the BBC to fund at least one more question answering season (?).
I liked the series and was hoping for a 3rd season. Too many story lines were left open ended, I thought there was plenty of material to support a 3rd season. But I understand that what I think doesn’t matter; money, ego and power struggles usually take precedence.
So very disappointed that The Hour will not have additional seasons after season 2. This show is gripping and very well written. Outstanding plot that is tied up perfectly. Interesting cast members with lots of depth to each of them. I have been sharing with all my friends and family how they need to watch The Hour! Please revive Freddie and The Hour!!!
Please have a season 3. It is a riveting show, and we have to see if Freddie lives!
I thought The Hour was spectacular, gripping and very much regret that there will not be a season three. Great acting; great writing. Also wanted to know the cliff hanger of whether Freddie survived.
Loved “The Hour”. Disappointed there is no more. Did Freddie survive?
Just saw the end of Season 2, would definitely like to see seasons 3 and 4. So much better than what TV usually offers.
We loved it and would want to see a third seasson
Borgen had a fourth season many years after its third. The Hour could too. It is one of the best series I’ve ever seen with writing and acting that far surpasses most anything offered today. Bring it back!
