There won’t be a third season of The Hour, the BBC Two TV series. The show aired on BBC America here in the States.
Created by Abi Morgan, The Hour is set in the late 1950’s and revolves around a BBC current affairs news show. The dramatic series stars Ben Whishaw, Dominic West, Romola Garai, Anton Lesser, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Joshua McGuire, Lisa Greenwood, Anna Chancellor, Kelly-Jayne Adams. Burn Gorman, Juliet Stevenson, Tim Pigott-Smith, Andrew Scott and Oona Chaplin.
While The Hour was a success in its first season, viewership dropped significantly in season two. There are just 12 episodes total and the finale aired on BBC America on January 2nd.
A representative for BBC Two said, “We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through.”
What do you think? Did you like The Hour? Are you sorry to hear that there won’t be a third season?
Best series I’ve seen in a while. Please have a third season!
Or — write a book!
🙂
The hour best series and didn’t see advertised at time. Would so enjoy a season 3.
Tbe Hour should not have been cancelled. It was brillianty written and acted.

I Loved! Loved! Loved! The show. I am distraught there is no more: what a cast. Adored discovering Oola Chaplin, superb actor:-)
I can’t believe there isn’t a season 3. Maybe it is possible to make one more show to wrap it up? All of these dangling relationships….not fair!
I really enjoyed this show. Sad to hear there will not be a third season.
Enjoyed The Hour. Disappointed that there will not be a season 3.
I absolutely loved so much about this show. Each actor was perfectly cast, depth of the characters and acting was consistently engaging and the plot was constantly entertaining with dramatic complications and intrigues. Reconsideration of a Season 3 should happen, PLEASE!
Oh shame! The Hour was absolutely brilliant. At least Bel and Freddie finally succomed!
Cannot believe there is no season 3 of The Hour. IT KEPT ME at the edge of my seat for the entire show. So very disappointed that it was cancelled. Bring it back!
Very disappointed that “The Hour” was canceled. Excellent writing and acting. Story lines and characters were well developed and engaging.
I am SO disappointed that there won’t be a season 3 of The Hour. Everything about it is superlative. The subjects they tackle may have taken place in the 50s but they still resonate, loudly, today. Is there any chance BBC2 (or PBS?) can bring it back?
So very disappointed that there won’t be a 3rd Season – loved the writing, acting, historical nods, behind-the-scenes of a news show during that era…all made for a show to look forward to each week…What would it take to get it back?
I just discovered this show and have been binge watching for three days now, and just watched the finale. I am extremely disappointed that it will not be continued.
Just finished Season 2… cannot believe this did not continue
I loved this show! “The Hour” is one of the most creative and best performed series I have seen. The casts could not have been better matched to their characters. It is amazing to me that with all the other “same-same” series that one so imaginative and well written would be cast off. I understand that viewership is important and I do not know if this has been shown on other networks besides Acorn which is subscription only- maybe PBS in US?
