There won’t be a third season of The Hour, the BBC Two TV series. The show aired on BBC America here in the States.
Created by Abi Morgan, The Hour is set in the late 1950’s and revolves around a BBC current affairs news show. The dramatic series stars Ben Whishaw, Dominic West, Romola Garai, Anton Lesser, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Joshua McGuire, Lisa Greenwood, Anna Chancellor, Kelly-Jayne Adams. Burn Gorman, Juliet Stevenson, Tim Pigott-Smith, Andrew Scott and Oona Chaplin.
While The Hour was a success in its first season, viewership dropped significantly in season two. There are just 12 episodes total and the finale aired on BBC America on January 2nd.
A representative for BBC Two said, “We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through.”
What do you think? Did you like The Hour? Are you sorry to hear that there won’t be a third season?
just watched this show on Acorn, TV- and once again the TV world will go and cancel a great show- why oh why do you people do that- this was a great show and for once in a long time it was a show with dialog and not a bunch of junk music as a filler- oh please reconsider and bring this show back- it is so good and the actors are a group of great characters- please think about it- BBC- you know I am right.
I’m so disappointed there won’t be more seasons. Season 2 was different from one but with it’s own new brilliance. The topics were darker and more controversial even in today’s climate. When the Freddie character didn’t start out from the very beginning, I was disappointed and wondered how they could replace him. But he came back with his sharp wit and humor and tenatiouness that made me immediately happy. The second season provided very intimate views into the characters, not just the primary stars. It made you really care about all of them. I can’t stand how it left you… Read more »
I just binge watched the two season, and was left wondering at the end of season 2- and so much is still to be said and done in this show- it needs to come back with a 3 and maybe a 4th season- good characters, good story line, and for sure a great following here in the United States- where we love a new direction of events. A time censorship and blackmailing, and just corruption coming into light all around the world- it needs at least 3 more season- can you tell my mind is flying with possibilities- what happen… Read more »
My wife and I loved the show. Very disappointed that no season three.
Hubby and I loved every minute of series 1 and 2 and so disappointed there’s no 3 I say please do series 3
Bring back The Hour for a 3rd season. My wife and I have been captivated by it after binge watching on Prime during virus lockdown. Don’t understand why such a classy gripping drama was it not aired on BBC 1 in the first place?
Cannot believe there will be no Season 3 of The Hour…one of the best shows on TV, far surpassing any broadcast channels. PLEASE reconsider continuing this intelligent, edge of the seat entertainment
Very sorry to learn that there is no Season 3 of The Hour. Very well done, gripping drama.
Please, please reconsider.
Foolish to cancel this incredibly intelligent and dramatic show…maybe it was too intelligent, or maybe Americans knew nothing about it? There was no advertising in U.S. for it, or it might have had a much bigger audience. It was Five-star in cast, story, and production values. BBC obviously doesn’t know how to tout their best shows that Americans with our free press would certainly have been interested in, IF THEY HAD KNOWN!…Too bad.
Shame no season 3. I suspect people are to impatient with a story line that builds. Similar to online news summaries vs complete stories or a novel. Instant gratification. I must admit I binged for two days! Loved every second.
I can’t believe there will be no Season 3 of The Hour. I have been binge watching it this week and found that it is one of the best series that the BBC has put out and I watch a lot of BBC series. It is a darn shame that we can’t continue to follow the lives of those in The Hour and see what they will do next. We need a show like this, given the current political situation, although this takes place decades ago. What a big mistake the BBC has made. I am sure I am not… Read more »
I am disappointed to learn that “The Hour” will not have another series. I sure would like to see it come back – Freddie has to be okay and “MoneyPenny” will get her man!
probably late to the comment game, but enjoyed this show very much – sad there is no season three 🙁
So disappointed to hear that there will not be a season 3. This is one of my favorite shows on Acorn. Can’t believe it didn’t rate high enough for season 3. Absolutely love it!
Please reconsider.
Just discovered this excellent programme. So sad there wasn’t a third series. Ripe for a rerun with some promotion I think
Really disappointed that this gripping drama was cancelled. People have little taste for good programming.
It is one of the truly great tv shows & as there are so few of this stature, it really must be reinstated – PLEASE!
