TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
love it! Keep it!
I would miss it. It is the only show that I watch on TNT since they canceled Franklin and Bash so if it goes I’m giving up on TNT they cancel way to many good shows. They’ll probably start going the USA and E route and playing crappy reality shows about trashy people that get cheap laughs, cost nothing to make and add nothing good to the world.
keep it. it’s numbers will do better when it doesn’t compete directly against NFL on Sunday night.
outstanding show definitely deserves at least a third season
Such a great way to get people back to reading books, and going to the Libraries armed only with their imagination. Keep it !
KEEP IT!
Keep!
Keep it!!!
Keep it
This is series is definitely a keeper! Well written by John Rogers and his writing team, smartly produced by Dean Devlin and his staff at Electric Entertainment and very well acted by his stars Christian Kane, Rebecca Romijn, John Larroquette, Noah Wylie, Lindy Booth and John Kim along with such marvelous guests stars as the legendary Bruce Campbell, the young but highly talented new comers Bex Taylor-Klaus and Lea Zawada.
I think that the librarians is such a good show. I really want it to have a season 2. I think that all the good shows are being cancelled and I would hate to see this one get cancelled too.
love love love The Librarians! Especially Christian Kane!
My husband and I LOVE this show. It’s one of the few we both like. KEEP IT!
