TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Please keep the show. Although I don’t want when it airs, I do watch it every week on demand and its one of my favorite series’.
Please please please renew The Librarians for season 2! It was definately a family friendly show – I watched for Christian Kane, hubby for Rebecca, & kids loved John Kim & Lindy Booth! John Laroquette was superb as Jenkins/Galahad! Throw in Matt Frewer as the big bad nasty was classic! Throw in Goovy Bruce Campbell & it was a “win-win” all round!! RENEW!!!!

they certainly need to keep The Librairians on TV. It is a very good show wth a great cast.
Keep, keep, keep it!!! This show is a breath of fresh air in the quagmire of reality tv that “everyone” seems to want to watch. It catches and KEEPS your attention and deserves to have more than one or two seasons. I truly hope that TNT keeps this one going.
Please, please keep the show…as I love it so much. The actors and story lines are amazing.

Keep it! I’ve never seen the movies so I can’t compare, but I’ve enjoyed the series very much. I love the characters and the shows premises. I wish this was a book series too, best of both worlds! I find it is very Harry Potter, very Merlin-ish and should appeal to both fans. I hope they renew, because there is hardly anything decent left to watch on television.
Considering it competed with the Christmas season, Golden Globes, and NFL Playoffs, I think their ratings are excellent. Rizzoli and Isles is typically on in the middle of the week when other networks are in reruns. Librarians should be renewed.

Our family loves this show. My son may be singlehandedly responsible for a spike in on demand viewing. Would love to see a second season where they work on some cases alone, some together, and continue to explore history and myth, science and magic, and just enough paranormal to keep an edge. Hope to see you guys again soon!
