TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

I loved the librarians. So much adventure and history wrapped into one show! Love all the characters and I really enjoyed the banter between them. I need more!
Oh, you gotta keep it! It’s one of the most entertaining shows on TV! It’s got it all! I’d rather watch this show than all the night “soaps” that are on — and it’s family friendly!
Can’t say that about a lot of shows anymore.
Please keep this show! There is not another one like it on TV. It is innovative and entertaining!! Not to mention, it is fabulous to have John Larroquette and Christian Kane back on television every week!!!

I and my family love this show, we really want it to be renewed because there are so many more adventures to see. The show is so much fun to watch and there is always a twist to whatever story they are telling.
It is a fun and adventurous show. Not a lot of fighting and violence, and gorey scenes. I love it!!! We record it every week. Don’t cancel!!!!!!!!

Keep this show! Its amazing. We need more like this. So many great shows have come to an end or have been cancelled.Its imaginative fantasy adventure comedy. Amazing!
