CBS hasn’t cancelled The McCarthys but fans aren’t going to be able to find any new episodes on the schedule.
The McCarthys revolves around sports-crazed family from Boston. Athletically-challenged and gay son Ronny (Tyler Ritter) plans to finally move away to start his own life. Those plans are thrown into turmoil when his basketball coach dad (Jack McGee) offers him a job as assistant coach — much to the dismay of Ronny’s siblings. The sitcom also stars Laurie Metcalf, Jimmy Dunn, Joey McIntyre, and Kelen Coleman.
The sitcom debuted in late October and, despite mediocre ratings, the network has kept The McCarthys on the air. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network in total viewership and also has the lowest demo rating of any CBS sitcom this season — including The Millers which was dropped mid-way through its second season.
The network didn’t give the show a full season but did order two additional installments, bringing the first season’s tally to 15 episodes. It remains to be seen if we will actually see all of them however.
CBS has aired 11 of the 15 episodes so far. They had been set to air two more installments, on February 5th and 12th. Now, the network has pulled them and plans to air reruns of The Big Bang Theory instead.
The following week, CBS will fill the 9:30pm timeslot with part of the Two and a Half Men series finale and after that Mom will shift there — to make room for the debut of the new version of The Odd Couple at 8:30pm.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the remaining four episodes of The McCarthys. Also, based on the ratings, it looks very unlikely that the series will be renewed for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like The McCarthys TV show on CBS? Would you watch the four remaining episodes? If you ran the network would you renew the sitcom for a second season?
I love this show!!!!
please give it a fighting chance!!!
Very very disappointed that this show may be cancelled. My whole family looked forward to Thursday nites just to watch this show. CBS is making a big mistake and I hope another network picks this show up. It truly is a very funny show. CBS is soooo wrong. I hope abc gets this show. They know talent unlike cbs
I like the McCarthys. It is a good show!!! I would rather watch the McCarthy’s than reruns of The Big Bang Theory. I am getting sick of Big Bang Theory reruns. I’m not going to watch the reruns. I’m going to change the channel. The new season of The Big Bang Theory isn’t that great anyway. The writing has changed. What I want to know is which stupid CBS executive decided to put the McCarthys behind Two and a half Men. Everyone I know changed the channel when Two and a half Men was on because the show is perverted,… Read more »
Even Friends had a slow start Cheers another Boston based show was not a direct hit. The show needs to be promoted more try a earlier time slot. This show has a lot to offer if given a chance for more of fans of these fantastic actors to make us laugh till we cry isn’t that what a comdey is supposed to do well this show is a grand slam when it comes to quick wited jokes. What do they us have to do? to keep it from not getting the respect it deserves. I and many other fans of… Read more »
Love this show. Great characters and the interaction is terrific.
I love this show and the whole cast. Very funny I have recorded every episode and keep re watching them. Can’t believe it is being cancelled.
The show was funny! probably have it at an earlier time slot! Give it a chance!
I enjoy thd show. Have watched all the episodes. I hope it survives. I even went to watch a taping of the show. Love the cast. Please aid all the episodes and bring it back for season 2. Good luck Mccarthys.
I think it is a bad choice to cancel this show, I have truly enjoyed it. Maybe they should try having it on earlier maybe between Big Bang & Mom. Once you get in on the family drama you are hooked, hilarious show . CBS screwed up!!!!at least play the last to shows. I hope some other network picks it up and .
We love the show. It’s just plain funny. The entire cast is great. If the ratings are low, what’s wrong with America? Everybody should be watching this.
I enjoy watching the show. It is refreshing to watch a family interact with each other that is more real than made-up. It is like the George Costanza family in full swing. Better than watching some of these reality shows that are just gross. Why not give it more of a chance and see what happens. You kept Two and 1/2 men going and I thought it was not very good.
I LOVE this show. It’s really unfortinate.
Every time there’s a good comedy CBS screws up and cancels. This is one of the best in a long time. I love Tyler Ritter, so much like his dad; it puts a new kind of excitement in the air. Just because it’s not all about SEX and raunchy but good wholesome, clean FUN. they don’t get it!! What the hell???!!!!???
Very funny sit-com. Lori Metcalf fantastic as always. John Ritter’s son is great. Absolutely great. Stupid networks don’t give a decent show a chance to get legs…or go thru some growing pains. Frustrating. Maybe…their scripted new shows suffer because, we, the audience, check out because we know we can’t vest in it because it will get yanked. It works both ways….
loved it
