CBS hasn’t cancelled The McCarthys but fans aren’t going to be able to find any new episodes on the schedule.
The McCarthys revolves around sports-crazed family from Boston. Athletically-challenged and gay son Ronny (Tyler Ritter) plans to finally move away to start his own life. Those plans are thrown into turmoil when his basketball coach dad (Jack McGee) offers him a job as assistant coach — much to the dismay of Ronny’s siblings. The sitcom also stars Laurie Metcalf, Jimmy Dunn, Joey McIntyre, and Kelen Coleman.
The sitcom debuted in late October and, despite mediocre ratings, the network has kept The McCarthys on the air. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network in total viewership and also has the lowest demo rating of any CBS sitcom this season — including The Millers which was dropped mid-way through its second season.
The network didn’t give the show a full season but did order two additional installments, bringing the first season’s tally to 15 episodes. It remains to be seen if we will actually see all of them however.
CBS has aired 11 of the 15 episodes so far. They had been set to air two more installments, on February 5th and 12th. Now, the network has pulled them and plans to air reruns of The Big Bang Theory instead.
The following week, CBS will fill the 9:30pm timeslot with part of the Two and a Half Men series finale and after that Mom will shift there — to make room for the debut of the new version of The Odd Couple at 8:30pm.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the remaining four episodes of The McCarthys. Also, based on the ratings, it looks very unlikely that the series will be renewed for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like The McCarthys TV show on CBS? Would you watch the four remaining episodes? If you ran the network would you renew the sitcom for a second season?
its funny let it stay on the air wonderful actors
“McCarthys” is very funny. With a little more publicity, the viewership could skyrocket.
Keep the McCarthys. It’s hilarious and we need more gay characters on TV plus Laurie Metcalfe is a riot. I’d rather see Mom cancelled than this show.
What were they thinking?
Great show!.
I would also like to see the final four episodes of the McCarthy and wish CBS would consider keeping it and maybe changing nights or something. I am 60 and my son is 25 and we watch shows together that I record on the DVR since he cannot afford cable tv on his wages. We both really enjoyed it. It is so hard to find sitcoms any more that are not full of sexual innuendo and sexual content.
I will miss the McCarthys along with the fokllowing comedies.

Wow. Thanks for that list. Now I remember why I don’t routinely watch CBS. Its where funny goes to die. Isn’t it interesting how so many have commented that they came upon it by accident? It was an accident because many do not routinely watch CBS. I think it’s mostly the folks that still watch “Murder she wrote”. Anyway, how badly is CBS doing, that it didn’t even support their own decision to air the show? I feel like it would have thrived if it ran for the entire season. So many posts have indicated that it was a show… Read more »
At the very least CBS could run it during the summer. I get so tired of having hardly nothing to watch on network TV but reruns all summer long. I Have Dish and watch other channels as well, but in the summer even they do not have anything on unless it is a cop show or a show about terrorism and spies. And with nearly everyone having a DVR these days, or a computer to watch shows on, shows that don’t have excessively high ratings would be great in the summer months.
PLS keep The McCarthy’s – really Laugh out Loud funny. I miss it. The mom is hilarious as is a good mix of the family. My husband and I watch this one together and crack up. Don’t like the girlfriend, she can go. But not the show – PLS !!!!

I love The McCarthy’s! I hope it returns!
I Love The McCarthy’s…That Is A HILARIOUS Show…It Just GROWS On You..It Grew On Me After The 2nd Episode. Every Episode I Laughed. Why Do They ALWAYS Pull The GOOD Shows..EVERY SINGLE TIME..The McCarthy’s & Mike & Molly Too..Why? CBS Needs To START Giving Shows Longer Then A Few Weeks So People Can AT LEAST Know That They Exists!!They ALWAYS Pull The Funny Ones “It Never Fails All The Time” Who Really Knows What Shows Are On Anymore??
I Know I Don’t??
I wasn’t aware Mike & Molly had been cancelled. When did this happen?
It hasn’t been cancelled.
I really enjoyed watching Laurie Metcalf back in action. She’s funny and the show was enjoyable I truly believe you should give it another chance. The Mac Carthys were great!
Keep the mccarthTs, best comedy in a long while!!
Love the McCarthys. Please bring it back!!!
If you want to tell CBS directly, go here!! I did! I want this show back!!

The McCarthy’s is a great show. My wife and I love the show. Bring it back. Every year you start to watch a funny show and then it is gone. Or it is on for 3x, then off and then on and then off. How do you expect to keep a person attention when you don’t stick to a schedule.
Luckily my dvr just recorded all of the McCarthy’s shows. the odd couple didn’t do it for me. Not even close to McCarthy’s!!
Why do the truly funny and enjoyable shows like the McCarthy’s get cancelled while the vulgar comedies continue? I suspect it’s the degeneration of the audience as much as the producers.
Please bring back The McCarthys! This is the smartest comedy to come on the air in a very long time. It is laugh-out-loud funny, and much better than many of the other comedies on the air. This is probably the only sitcom that I watch consistently.
The McCarthy’s and The Millers are absolutely terrific! The characters are fresh, unique and the story always amusing. Bring back both of these programs CBS!
