The Muppets will air an all-new episode later tonight, and now ABC has already scheduled the season finale for the freshman series. According to Spoiler TV, the final two episodes of the first season, titled “Generally Inhospitable” and “Because…Love” will air together on February 29.
ABC has not yet renewed the series. Does the series airing its finale this month mean this series is cancelled? There is no way to know for sure.
The Muppets returned to ABC on February 1 after the network expressed its disappointment with the direction of the series during the Winter TCA’s in January. The series was revamped during its winter hiatus after ABC announced that the series would have only a 16 episode first season.
The series has seen a drop in its ratings since its return earlier this month. Currently, it averages a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.479 million viewers.
Could ABC decide to keep The Muppets around and renew? Anything is possible. Disney owns The Muppets, and the return was highly promoted before the season began in the fall.
Fans of this series will need to wait to find out what happens next. ABC will likely keep their decision under wraps until after the finale airs.

LOVE the Muppets!!! One of the best shows on TV all around!
I really enjoy the new Muippits, although I do think the original staffers were more funny. I would however love to see a season 2, but then I’m over 50 so what do my thoughts matter.
They are no longer relevant or funny. They are only popular with the die hards who give them 5 star reviews for everything. At this point they are a moribund Disney property and it looks like they are on their last legs.
I consider myself a diehard fan (Muppet Show, Jim Henson Hour, Muppets Tonight, MOST Muppet movies, etc.), and I didn’t even bother watching this show’s series premiere, much less any of those that followed this past season.
Peter Cooper, Joey Cafarella, Sara Crowe, Paul Ridley, John Jonas, Rita Flack, Sophia Rogers, Todd LeRoy, Johnny X, Frank Ernst, Brad Taylor, Joe, Chris Byers… or whatever other name you decide to comment under… knock off using all the aliases. Pick a name and stick to it or you will be banned.
I absolutely LOVE the new Muppets. I watched them in the 70s, and I’m seriously enjoying the more “adult” version now.
I would agree with Veronica! LOVE the new Muppets! Please bring them back.
I love the muppets!! 2nd season!!
I love “The Muppets” and the show deserves a 2nd Season!!!
I’d be totally bummed if they cancelled the Muppets…If it’s not getting the desired viewership, I’d say it wasn’t very well promoted to their target audience (assuming that’s folks who watched The Muppet Show as kiddos and who are now Gen X+’ers who appreciate more adult The Office/30 Rock story platform while enjoying the nostalgic throwback and beloved characters). The writing is brilliant and the cast is clearly irreplaceable. #keepthemuppets!!
Please keep the muppets on the air. It is one of the few reasons I keep cable TV. Other than the Muppets and the Middle, I would just as soon stick to the shows on AMC and Showtime. Keep the muppet magic alive!!!
I will be extremely upset if they cancel the Muppets! It is one of the best shows on television, and I have been a fan of theirs for years! I don’t know that there’s another show on channel 7 that I would even care to watch.
I think it was planned back in October that this series would end in March. I seriously hope S2 is in consideration. It did lose it’s viewership after the first episode disappointed fans, but the premiere numbers and the numbers following it should be a strong indication that there is a good fanbase for these characters. Hope they give them more time for people to realize how much this show improved.
It’s going to be very sad if The Muppets gets cancelled.
The show’s bombing in every country it’s been sold to. Time to turn off the lights, lower the curtain and say a long-delayed goodbye.
The show deserves a second season and hopefully ABC will renew…and move the second season out of the doomed-to-fail overly competitive Tuesday night slot. They should ideally be on Wednesdays where they’re more likely to attract the live viewers. Their 123 country distribution deal will probably be what works most in their favor as that’s especially what makes the show so profitable. Plus of all ABC’s freshman shows, they’re tied with Quantico for having the highest average season-to-date demos.
I love the new Muppets Show. The most recent episode was perfect. The new characters (such as the ‘stylist’ to Miss Piggy, the rat secretary and the shrimp) are wonderful and a great addition. It was fun to see Joan Jett (who looks fabulous). The story line was funny and relevant. Hope ABC keeps this around.
The stylist, Uncle Deadly, has been with the Muppets since the first season of the Muppet Show (1976). The rat secretary, Yolanda, has been with them since the Muppets Take Manhattan (1985). The shrimp, Pepe, has since the 90s on Muppets Tonight. I honestly don’t blame you for thinking they were new characters since they’re all criminally underused.
First part of season was great, but not quite as funny since it was retooled. Hopefully it gets another chance.
