Before it even premiered, The New Normal was “cancelled” by an affiliate station in Utah. NBC is hoping that some of the “controversy” surrounding this show will draw big ratings week after week.
Revolving around a gay couple and their surrogate, The New Normal features the talents of Andrew Rannells, Justin Bartha, Georgia King, Ellen Barkin, NeNe Leakes, Bebe Wood, and Jayson Blair.
These are the TV show’s ratings for the 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if The New Normal is going to be cancelled or renewed for a second season. The show typically airs on Tuesday nights and NBC has ordered 13 22 episodes.
These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so be sure to bookmark and return to this page:

The “special preview” of The New Normal had an okay start in the ratings. It won its timeslot but lost 40% of its lead-in audience. The numbers may have been negatively impacted by the fact that NBC released the pilot online weeks ago and they added this preview to the schedule just last week. Those who read TV Guide were expecting to see a new episode of Grimm.
On the plus side, NBC was up by 56% when compared to the 2011 timeslot occupant, the Miss Universe Pageant. Ultimately, the sitcom’s fate will become more clear as the weeks progress. The only thing we know right now is that it’s not a big hit or a big flop right out of the gate.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like The New Normal TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Hate the show, it does not appeal to me at all. NeNe Leaks can not act what so ever. She sucks.
[…] viewers. Week-to-week, the demo was down by 11%. Go On drew a 2.5 rating (-4%) with 6.4 million and The New Normal garnered a 1.8 rating (-10%) with 4.5 million. Parenthood capped the night with a 1.9 rating (-5%) […]
I don’t like the show because it seems like their copying the Modern Family theme. The acting by Nene Leakes is not good
because she is that way on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Not different at all. The racist gandmother role is not entertaining to watch. Had enough of Archie Bunker, we don’t need a female doing that. Too many stereotypes in the show.
This show should be cancelled.
[…] of The Voice. This week, they bounced back. Go On rose 33% to a 2.8 rating with 6.95 million. The New Normal drew a 2.0 rating (+18%) and 4.96 million. Parenthood garnered a 2.0 rating (+25%) with 4.99 […]
The New Normal is a great show. Says what it means no games! Great show for the whole family
Very human and sympathetic show.
Though Modern Family may seem more hilarious, this is a different approach.
And I think issues like discrimination or tolerance deserve being treated on their own merit.
Won’t watch it again.
I love Ellen Barkin, she is so hip in today’s “politically correct” society. please renew.
she’s written as an old “betty white” character -an old lady who curses and says racist things-not clever or even realistic at all
Agree with Ed, Norman, your comparison is no where close to Betty White.
I watched it hoping that it would be like modern family but it wasn’t funny at all. I felt like it was insulting and too preaching. I was expecting humor and I got a lecturing drama. It will probably not make the year.
A terrible show. Can’t believe promising and quality shows are getting the axe in favor of crap like this.
I love it
It’s not a perfect show by any means, and still needs to find it’s footing. But Happy Endings didn’t start as great either, and look at it now. The New Normal has major potential. Nice to see it hit a season high in it’s second episode in total viewers.
Happy Endings is pretty bad-the chubby gay guy is the least realistic character in gay TV history-doesnt exist in the real world. And the dark haired girl who is supposed to be the pretty one? shes a really poor actress who is pretty average looking
Wow – that is not stereotypical at all. Gay men cant be chubby. The dark hair girl is “the pretty one”. They are both just characters – they dont have to fit into your predetermined molds. Think outside the box for a minute.
I did not think it was worth watching..its a cheap knock off of Modern Family, it lacks Modern’s class and presents too many story lines. Don’t renew until its polished up and less tacky.
[…] Go On which drew a 3.4 demo rating and 9.57 million. That was followed by the second night of The New Normal with another 2.5 in the demo with 7.0 […]
It’s an ok show so far. The best part is Ellen Barkin’s character’s Archie Bunker personality.
