On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

We have enough shows with important and straight tips. It is getting old. Us disappointed soap watchers will hopefully taint the show out of existence. Along with the Chew.
I will not watch the chew or the revolution. I’m a 50 yr old grandmother who is raising her grandson and I work at home. At 2:00 was my escape and OLTL was my escape for the day. The revolution does not interest me because I’m happy with my life and the way I look. I learned all the things the revolution wants me to learn from Oprah, Now she is gone and I’ve learned alot. ABC/Disney made a BIG MISTAKE cancelling the daytime dramas. I hope they learned the lesson !! BTW ABC/Disney give Agnes Nixon back her rights… Read more »
ABC network made the biggest mistake!! As a fan of OLTL for more than 20yrs,I appreciated the varied storylines. Both in drama and in health issues, OLTL provided entertainment. Isn’t that what tv is all about. Sitcoms provide a laugh, sports provide fun, movies provide intrique, and soap operas provide all of that and more.. As a fan, I am the one who watches the commercials and then buys the products. I will never watch ABC other than GH…and your new show the Revolution is NOT what the afternoon viewer wants. I am sick of reality shows and your attempt… Read more »
The Revolution is a good show. It has lots of important and straight forward tips for better health and lifestyle. It will attract people who want to look good and feel great all of the time.
Keep up the good work. I hope the disappointed soap watchers don’t taint the show’s success.

Stupid, stupid, stupid idea’s ABC executives…you all need to be fired and I hope that is what will happen since your rating will only get worse. I will only watch your channel if my soaps are put back in their time slots. I also plan to remind all your advertisers that I will not be purchasing their produtes either if they advertise on your channel. I know everyone tried this before, but now I think they might listen since the ratings for these reality shows are so horrible and still sinking lower and lower each day. You thought you’d save some money… Read more »
I agree with you completely. Why didn’t they advertise the soaps like they do the stupid talk shows. Maybe they could of cut cost by not buying designer outfits for the soap actors. No one would of known the difference. They could of put the shows back to 30 minutes. The most important thing that they did not do is ask the people what they wanted. They just assumed and stabbed us all in the back after 43 years of being loyal fans. You are correct, know one wants to see Katie Couric. That show will fail too. I am… Read more »

I will not even give this show an opportunity to win me over. The only thing ABC can do to win me over now is give me back my damn soaps!!!!!
Can anyone tell me what was the series finale of “One Life To Live” was like? I’m saying that because I never had gotten a chance to watch it and I am not much of a soap fan. I still understand that people stop tuning to ABC in the daytime because of the loss of “All My Children” and now “One Life To Live.” I seen “The Chew” and it’s boring and stupid that I stopped watching it. As for “The Revolution,” I haven’t seen it yet, but I heard that their big debut of the show was a total… Read more »

OLTL was my show. my escape at 2pm..I dont need a snooze fest in the afternoon ABC.. Id rather nap for real than watch these new shows.. But its up to you!! Do you want your loyal viewers back or not?? Cheapness shows.. Give us some quality!! Bring back the daytime we love!!!
No wonder the ratings sucked, There is no Mannings, or Kanes, or Martins, or Buchanans!!! Sink in the Hole!
i watched it for 3 minutes and said i cant believe they managed to get a whole cast of people who are actually annoying me (their voices and all). (except TY who i just love b/c of extreme makeover, very dissapointed he ended that show). i am not sure why anyone thought the ratings would be good. people work then you have those who were dedicated to OLTL such as myself who recorded it b/c of work. SHOULD HAVE KEPT THINGS THE WAY THEY WERE. I dont believe your ratings will get any better. I make sure my TV is… Read more »
I have not and will not watch the revolution or the chew.. They never should have canceled oltl, I hope it backfires on the idiots big time.
my thoughts EXACTLY
Watched today for first and last time! Are the women watching only 20-50 years olds? Not me! Surely an only female show with no helpful info for males in the family. Format overall just seemed uninteresting and surely nothing that’s not offered elsewhere. Ty needs to get back to the housing shows helping others..not helping women with their breasts and bras!
