On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

I no longer watch daytime tv on abc, since they cancelled both the shows that I had watched for 40+ years. If abc can’t be loyal to me, I will NOT be loyal to them. I have not watched either replacement show, nor do intend to ever watch them.
I’m so glad to see The Revolution has been a flop. Soap viewer received a royal rip off in the past year. ABC, it serves you right. Me, my friends, or family do not tune into ABC in the afternoon or evening hours anymore. My ABC viewing only consists of GMA!
I will not be watching any of ABCs shows during the day!! But you could rest assure my channel would have been on ABC at 2:00 daily when OLTL was on!! ABC execs make me sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERY DISAPPOINTED IN ABC TAKING OLTL OFF THE AIR. HAVEN’T WATCHED THIS TIME SLOT, ATTEMPTED TO SEE WHAT THE REVOLUTION WAS LIKE AND ALL I CAN SAY IS BORING!! WONDER HOW LONG THE SPONSORS WILL STAY WITH A LOOSER. WELL, THEY ARE AT LEAST SAVING 40-50% NOT AIRING OLTL, WAS IT WORTH IT? PUBLIC DOESN’T THINK SO.
You took to best daytime shows off of TV. ONE LIFE TO LIVE, (THE BEST SHOW ON TV) AND ALL MY CHILDREN. I CAN NOT STAND THE SHOWS YOU REPLACED THEM WITH.
iS THE ABC EXECS LOOSING THEIR MINDS OR DO YOU NOT LIKE TO PLEASE THE PEOPLE THAT IS WATCHING ABC. DO NOT WATCH YOUR DAYTIME RUBBISH. IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP. PLEASE BRING BACK OUR SOAPS.
I ma suprised it isnt already canceled,I cant believe abc thinks this garbage is more watchable than oltl,if it was the ratings wouldnt be so low
Other than Tim Gunn these people are boring or else they are caricatures of somebody else we have seen but they all leave me wondering —- how desperate is daytime television to sink this low for fillers to take up air time. The lineup is pathetic and the black finance person – did you go out and try to find a Suze Orman wannabe in black face? She hopeless, shallow and by no means authentic. Not enough substance in any of them to make me want to spend my time and mental energy on any of this. Sorry! I’d rather… Read more »
ABC execs have lost their minds! Bring our soaps back! We are not interested in this new crap you pt on!
Bring our soaps back i hate talk shows to many now……….
I also no longer watch ABC during the daytime and my DVR is distinctly silent. However, for the past 35 years I would either tune in between the hours of noon and three or set the television to record, at first with video cassettes and then with the DVR. Now I watch General Hospital mostly on Hulu.com.
Sick of reality TV.

I believe Make-over shows give unhealthy and unrealistic expectations. Most people have already come to this conclusion. Too Bad ABC execs haven’t.
Part of what the powers that be failed to figure into their bottom-line calculations is that many of the AMC and OLTL fans who are upset at the replacement of long-run shows with lower-cost shows will not watch ANYTHING on ABC, which means loss of revenue across the board. I am one of those fans; my remote is programmed to completely bypass my local ABC affiliate. And the funny thing is, I don’t miss it!
