On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

I like Ty Pennington, but there is no way I am watching the Revolution. There is also no way I am watching the Chew, or anything other than General Hospital on ABC. Honestly, I am one who can accept that all things come to an end, but the way ABC marginalized the contributions and legacies of All My Children and One Life to Live really infuriated me. Since ABC had the audacity to promote the replacements on the very same day they announced the shows were coming to an end, I truly lost respect for the network. And from what… Read more »
Bring on the Revocation, and bring back One Life To Live!
All I can say is hahahahaha , abc we told u the show would flop u ignorant a holes , we don’t need or want a freaking talk show of all things trying to change our lives when we can do it on our own we don’t need or want u so let me an the rest of the soap fans come pull the plug on u with great pleasure , go away ur not wanted , we want all my children an one life to live only so b gone
Stupid stupid stupid. The show is not a revolution it is a revulsion!!!!!! OLTL had class and grace this is just brass and tacky.
Total waste of air time. The advertisers are in for a rude awakening when they realize the millions of soap opera fans who used to watch One Life To Live are no longer part of the “audience”. Lots of advertising dollars down the drain. This show should never have been produced, let alone aired. It’s an insult to television viewers everywhere.
Love The Chew…lasted like 10 minutes watching The Revolution. Watched Black Swan on On Demand rather than endure that or The Talk, the other snorefest @ that time of day.
1-13-12 was the last time i watched ABC .At 1st it was hard i never relize how often i watched ABC.but i am learning more about other channels and they are growing on me.Thanks ABC!!
Bad move by ABC to cancel AMC and OLTL!! I will not watch the chew or the revolution. I hope that both shows fail quickly.
This comes as no surprise. The SOAP fans are no longer watching ABC programming, except General Hospital. This should be a wake up call to the execs at ABC/Disney that they made a bad decision in cancelling scripted daytime drama. We will continue to Boycott ABC and Disney programming until they give back the rights to produce AMC and OLTL to Agnes Nixon. Our numbers are large and are being heard.
I have heard the IDIOT at ABC (Brian Frons) was terminated. They have a new lead person. I along with many others have been boycotting ABC since there decision to cancel our soaps. Just because the soap fans have aged out of the target range (18-49), does not mean we no longer watch tv or that our opinions don’t matter. I hope both shows tank sooner than later. Oh, and GH is next..I heard Sept.
Unfortunately, Kathi, Frons was not fired but promoted for doing exactly what he was hired to do and that was kill the soaps! He hired horrible writers (except for OLTL), dictated storylines, fired older actresses, discontinued all promotion of the soaps by pulling promo commercials during prime time & no more soap weekends or cruises. But what would have saved our soaps was international syndication: “Days” currently airs in Australia, South Africa, Turkey, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Hungary, Greece and Belize. Y&R airs in Australia, Belgium, Belize, Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, India, Israel, Jamaica, Mexico, the… Read more »
To be honest Anne I don’t need a TV show to tell me how to lead my life. I know high heels make your legs look longer, I know the way to buy a proper bra, and I know proper breast care. I have a full life, with an advanced educational degree, a great home, have traveled extensively, and believe it or not have discovered the secret to losing weight (spoiler alert, eat less and exercise). With the little bit of time I have to watch TV I want to escape my hectic day, not be told I’m not doing… Read more »
I’m just wondering who makes the decisions at ABC, because what fool thought woman who work hard all day would want to escape their difficult day by watching an overweight woman diet, exercise, and get a makeover. Not to mention the next week it all starts all over again with a new person can we say REDUNDANT! After a long day of work, than coming home taking care of the house, paying bills, food shopping and cooking I want an escape from reality, I want to fall into my soaps for an hour or two and watch my favorite couple’s… Read more »
Saw both The Chew and The Revolution. They stink.
anne – do you really think it’s revolutionary for Tim Gunn to tell me wearing high heels will make your legs look longer — DUH!!
Don’t blame the soap fans for a bad show.
Stupid move by ABC to cancell OLTL! I refuse it watch this show or any other program on ABC in protest! I hope the Revolution fails very quickly!
