On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

Both the Chew and The Revolution will never be on my TV .I hope they fail and ABC loses all it’s faithful veiwers. We needed another talk show on like we need a hole in our head.I hope every soap fan sticks to there vow and not watch this garbage.
I have no plans to watch. I think this was a very bad move for ABC/DISNEY. My DVR is free for the afternoon. Cheaper isnt always better. The fans of OLTL will be heard, bring back our show ! ! !
I am SO SICK of these idotic self-help shows! We don’t need any more so called experts to tell us how to live, what we should feel…blah, blah. What ever happened to entertainment?! This show will never be on my TV and hopefully no one else’s!
Everbdy should post on ther facebook that nobdy should watch the chew or revolution so ratings drop some more they won’t hav money 4real
Well, Igusss the soap opera fans are a little upset. Since I would not watch a soap opera, I think people are coming from two different camps. I work out of my house and have the tv on while I work. I did learn some new exercises to get me up and active and I think all in all it is an informative show.
I think the “Revolution” will fail miserably. ABC made a huge mistake. There are so many, many, many places you can find new exercises, pleeeeeeeze!!!. TV is supposed to be entertaining. I have watched OLTL, AMC & GH for decades. Yes, I work. I DVR them. These shows have been passed on from generation to generation to generation. They have been a constant in my life. They were a comfort in my life as I fought Stage 3 breast cancer, and endured surgery, chemo & radiation. And there are MILLIONS of Soap fans, and we will not watch the Revolution… Read more »
ABC doesn’t care if you had cancer and watched their shows. They couldn’t care less-all they care about is cranking out round-tables of 5 hosts talking about food and lifestyle a la Evening Magazine 1971. Yep, it’s their magic formula for turning out one ‘The View’ after another. They think the viewers are so stupid that as long as there are 5 people around a table, we won’t dare turn off our tv’s or change the channel. That’s what their brilliant minds have taken away from The View. Not that Barbara Walters has anything to do with the success of… Read more »
I will never watch this show or any other show on ABC other than GH!!! ABC had a faithful viewer for over thirty years, day and night, because of AMC, OLTL, and GH..we saw their ads for their primetime shows during our shows and tuned in. BRING BACK THESE ICONIC SHOWS BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!!
The execs should be second guessing all of their decisions. These revolting replacements are not what viewers want. As for the Katie thing, no one mourned her departure from Today, and viewers abandoned CBS news in droves when she assumed the helm. This latest move will not help with her popularity or salvage abc/daytime from the ratings dumpster. One Life to Live should NEVER have been cancelled. If you don’t give the customer what he/she wants, the customer goes elsewhere. This network may never recover from moronic decision-making!
I agree, let’s all spread the word to boycott ABC and Disney everything. You know, men have said in jest for years that the 3 fastest forms of communication are telegraph, telephone and tell a woman…. well ladies, let’s add some truth to that statement. If 2.3 million viewers boycott everything Disney, their parks will be hurting but even better if each one of the 2.3 million viewers convinces just 1 friend to join our boycott, then that will double those numbers to 4.6 million boycotting ABC and Disney products. Share the vision and lets make this happen.
The Revolution is not a show that I would ever watch. Have enough talk shows in the early a.m., prefer something different during the late a.m hours! ABC is stupid!
The soap fans who were watching in that time slot told ABC that we did not and would not want to watch these replacement shows. when a network gives the middle finger to a core audience of faithful viewers like OLTL AND AMC FANS, should they not expect the middle finger back at them with a see ya shouted as we turn into nbc or cbs. they screwed up but will never admit it in the words of BRIAN FRONS “WE CAN TRAIN THEM TO WATCH ANYTHING WE PUT ON TV” WELL WE ARE NOT GOING FOR THE TRAINING.
I have really enjoyed the show- – especially Ty! Love what they are showing viewers with the sisters losing weight together and the fashion advice is good too! Hope you give this some more time to catch on to others….
Way too many shows out there telling us how to eat, what to wear and basically that we need to “change” ourselves for someone or something or society in general. Sickening. Can’t believe any self respecting “individual” would support a show where a “lucky” carpenter tells a young woman how to fix herself. Send Ty back to building homes.
You like the show much, but had to remain anonymous???
Won’t be watching this or show no or eva! I know watch CBC Young and The Restless and Bold of the Beautiful. I record Days of Our Lives on NBC and watch it at 2:00 when the Revolution is on SINCE ONE LIFE TO LIVE IS NOT ON ANY LONGER AT 2:00 PM
I think it was really dumb of abc to cancel oltl. There are countless tv shows that are about how to lose weight. No one is actually going to record that like people did with oltl. Ill miss u oltl!!!!!!
No, I will not watch and I do not think it will succeed. Sure it cost less to make but is it really worth it to have only 1.5 mill..in viewership over the 2.3 with OLTL. I wish the cast on both replacement shows well but I do not like the show’s and will not watch. Bring Back AMC & OLTL!
[…] on what we’ve seen, it looks like The Revolution is going to be a ratings disappointment right out of the gate. While it’s too late to save OLTL, this show’s failure may be […]
The last thing TV needs is another talk show. Daytime is filled with different people talking about the same things for hours on end. I’d rather watch soaps anyday over this garbage. I have no plans on ever watching either new ABC daytime show.
I could not agree more and what is even more maddening than being told over and over again that we the consumer/customer derserve cheaper cheaper cheaper they also give us a host with an alledged DUI to help us improve ourselves, one small change of events could have taken an innocent life, I’m disgusted! ABC and Disney could not sink any lower in my book, especially Disney who sells books about customer service with emphasis on the very importance of listening to your customer. I am sure none of us feel listened too, so I have used my remote to… Read more »
