On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

I just want to say I cant stand soap’s so the less of them on tv the better and we need more shows like The Revolution on tv that will teach us to better ourselves in all aspects in our lives
I can look in the mirror and figure out whether I need to lose weight or not. And yes, I can also figure out that eating fruit and vegetables and more exercising will help me lose weight. I don’t need another show to tell me this!
So glad to hear that the Revolution is failing miserably! I don’t know what ABC was thinking. They had lifetime, loyal viewers and ratings that would attract major advertisers. And all the money they spent on promoting their new (failing) shows could have went a long way toward keeping the soaps on. Shame on ABC. Shame on Disney.
What nerve trying to tell us what we want to watch! Haven’t watched the Spew or the Revulsion, and never will. Couldn’t be happier that they are doing terrible in the ratings. At this point, I don’t care if the network goes bankrupt. It would serve them right! ABC deserves to lose all daytime & nightime viewers for such arrogance.
Watched day 1, terrible. Boring, choppy, enough with the self-help TV.
Just when you thought that nothing could be worse than “The Chew”, ABC execs roll out “The Revolution.” I am sooooo sick of ,yet another, group of people who do NOT know most of the viewing population decide how we should live our lives. Wasn’t “The View and The Doctors”, enough !!! It is time for TPTB to listen to the viewers who ARE in the 21st century. We want our extended familes back ( OLTL and AMC) !!!!!! I turned to CBS when AMC was cancelled to watch “The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.”… Read more »
This is the power of all those OLTL lovers! Eat that and lose your pants!
Bring back One Life To Live. Already do not like The Chew and the only reason the tv was on was to be ready for One Life. At least give this time slot to General Hospital in September. I’m no accountant but the books must look pretty bad. The network isn’t saving enough money for justification. Only 40%. sow me at least fifty. Corners could have been cut at One Life.
These news shows are an insult to women they are so dumb and simple minded. I will not watch them. I am watching soaps Y & R, B & B, and Dayson the other networks. ABC doesn’t care what the viewers want it’s all about money and what they want. Well they lost alot of loyal fans and will lose even more if they cancel GH. Nobody cares about these new shows, you had shows with loyal fans for 40+ years handed down to each new generation but it’s funny the network that started out about families no longer cares… Read more »
I just want to say ABC (aka Disney) did not LET Frons kill the soaps. It was Frons job to kill the soaps and he did exactly what he was paid to do. ABC has declined ever since Disney bought them in 1996. “By end of the 2003–2004 television season, ABC slumped to fourth place, becoming the first of the original “Big Three” networks to fall to such a ranking.” We can hate ABC but please know they’re controlled by Disney and Disney is the real villain. Boycott ABC and Disney!
Nope not watching the revolution..I’ve been watching OLTL since I was a kid..it was my escape from reality.
There’s to many talk shows and reality shows but our soaps are one of a kind..I would record it on my DVR.
This is what we’ve been all waiting for. ABC to second guess their viewers, who don’t want information on health and fitness, and want our OLTL back. This could also save GH, if Katie Couric takes the 3 PM slot. The Revolution is a joke. Now if the Chew drowns in its ratings, maybe our soaps can come back to ABC.
Just what we don’t need. Another show to tell you how unhealthy we are. Give us
a break. Sometime you like to look at someone elses’ crazy life. The show is
terrible.
I am gonna laugh when ABC loses money and any shred of dignity it has left. Ty Pennington looks like a bobble-head doll on crack, totally unwatchable. He comes off as ‘not smart’. The lady dr is sure to turn off women in droves. Oh great it costs less to produce than One Life, well by all means keep pulling in those 1.6 numbers then! I hope ABC goes broke.
I hate reality television. The Revolution may be cheaper to produce, but if the ratings aren’t there ABC will have problems attracting advertisers. That is where the money comes from to support these shows. Bad ratings means less advertising dollars and less money on annual reports
I have watched OLTL on and off since I was about 8, I am now 22. I always use to watch OLTL with my mom during the summers when I was young, and I have watched it almost everyday since I started college back in 2008 and if I missed a day I would watch online. This show gave me and my mom a common interest to share. ABC has spit in the faces of its loyal viewers by canceling OLTL . I hope The Chew and The Revolution FAIL miserably. I know it is more then unlikely for OLTL… Read more »
The Revolution gives you a good idea about what ABC thinks about the women watching TV during the day. They think you are a bunch of fat, unfashionable, psychos, with a lot of health problems. And everyday, they are going to remind you of this, and tell you to change. But even for the woman who really needs their help, does she need more than about a week of the show to get her back on track? A month from now, she would have learned everything she needs, and will no longer watch.
Haha!!! The revolution sucks the people have spoken and they hate it.abc sucks for not listening to the people when they say we want our beloved soap one life to live back.do you now understand we don’t want anymore stupid talk shows.WE WANT OUR SOAPS ONE LIFE RO LIVE.it was by far the best soap on tv,the ratings will prove that.BRING IT BACK TO THE AIR do something useful for once and STOP being greedy
