On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

I will never watch the revolution or the chew!!!!!! They already have channels for theses types of shows foodnetwork or any style network I think it was a big mistake ABC/Disney should have not replaced our soaps with this crap.
I would just like to say I have went through my DVR to do list and made sure there were no ABC show on it. I was sad to cancel Prime Time What Would You Do. I love that show. But I meant it when I said I would BOYCOTT anything ABC EXCEPT for General Hospitol and I will watch that real time not DVR because the DVR always catches about 30 seconds of the show before it and in this case it is The Revolution. Regardless to what that poor little man JAKE (previous post) thinks I don’t need… Read more »
I have watch one live to life from day one. I was 15 when I would rush home from school to watch one live to life. Now many years later I’m missing my soap! My sister, my mom and my daughter all watch one live. ABC really what night time show has lasted 43 years?? U can be sure my family will not turn on ABC!!!!! Oh ya my husband has been retired for 11 years he also watch every day too!!! One good thing we’ll all be saving on our electric bill.
I will also never turn on The Chew or The Revolution. Who needs more of the same reality shows on all the time. I do have to thank ABC for giving me more free time. Since all of my shows have either been cancelled or are ending I am watching less and less television. I do miss One Life to Live and All My Children and I find myself avoiding turning ABC on my television at all. My only hope would be that at the very least they start airing both soaps on Soapnet beginning with the very first episodes.… Read more »
Yep that’s just what ABC gets… How dare they think that woman are that bad off they need to have some Hollywood Rich people tell us how to live. You should rethink and bring back One Life To Live before the actors all get new jobs….
I am also leaning away from watching shows on ABC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t know what ABC is thinking…The Chew & The Revolution are both horrible! I believe there already are a couple of channels for cooking shows & The Revolution is just a complete mess. I’m sorry but I can’t stand to hear Ty’s voice anymore!! I won’t be watching either of these shows & I haven’t heard anyone say they like them. Wake up ABC, look at the ratings!!
I will NEVER watch The Revolution. I miss OLTL and AMC and will never watch the replacement shows. Any loyal soap fan will avoid the new shows like the plague. Hope ABC gets the message that people don’t want more cooking shows or personal improvement shows. We want entertainment…an escape from reality…which is what the soaps brought to us.
hey abc GREAT job getting rid of two of the all time best SOAPS in History!!!!!
I watched OLTL for over 20 years and was devastated when it was cancelled. I was determined not to support The Chew nor The Revolution. Loyal viewers, including myself, called and left messages begging ABC to save our soaps, but they ignored what we wanted for their own selfish gains. I refuse to watch these new shows and I’m glad other soap fans are boycotting as well.
Absolutely not watching The Chew or The Revolution! I have Comcast and I used parental controls to block them both!
Whiners, get over it, your soap isn’t coming back and instead of watching soaps and stuffing yourself with potato chips you may want to listen to the advice of the revolution and get in shape, healthy and look good and get rid of your tacky decor. The rich spend money to get the advice from such calibre people. Now ABC makes the advice available to people who can not afford their personal coaches. Great show.
I agree with Jake!!!
Stating an opinion is not whining, and you have as much right to state your opinion as everyone else does. I would like to state my opinion, and I will not be doing any name calling. I am 53 years old and began watching AMC when I was in high school and OLTL shortly thereafter. If I couldn’t watch while it aired, I recorded it on VCR. When DVR came out, I recorded them both that way. I looked forward to watching them every evening when I got home from work. I didn’t sit on the couch eating potatoe chips… Read more »
How long have you worked for ABC, Jake?
The trolls for ABC are out, calling soap viewers fat and ugly. Nice. Sorry, those so called experts don’t speak for me–I should be paid to give them advice. Why doesn’t ABC air the fireplace video–it’s cheap and alot more entertaining.
Is your name Brian Frons.
I will not, now or ever, watch the Revolution or its sister show, The Chew (aka The Crap)! ABC messed up big time and they will pay dearly for cancelling One Life To Live!
Hey ABC, The Revolution is sinking like the Titanic…better get your lifeboats out!
Will never watch The Revolution. Garbage. Waiting for OLTL to come back; that’s when ABC will earn audience share. Reality television is awful.
I WILL NEVER WATCH THE REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since the cancellation of AMC and OLTL, I now NO LONGER have my tv on channel 5, nor will I ever again during the day. You “talking heads” blew it.
