It seems not even magic couldn’t help bring the ratings up. The CW has cancelled The Secret Circle after one season of 22 episodes.
A supernatural series, The Secret Circle follows teenager Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) who, after moving to Chance Harbor, discovers that she is a witch and part of a young secret coven. The show also stars Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Shelly Hennig, Louis Hunter, Ashley Crow, and Natasha Henstridge.
When the season began, it looked like The CW had found the perfect match for their big hit, The Vampire Diaries. The premiere drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.05 million viewers. These days, those are excellent numbers for the smallest network.

In week two, the ratings dropped 31% but were still strong by CW standards. Unfortunately, over the course of the season, they have tumbled downward. They’ve gone as low as 0.5 rating with just 1.14 million viewers. Other CW shows were performing better and they didn’t have the advantage of having such a strong lead-in.
On our CW Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demographic numbers of shows on the network, The Secret Circle has a “B+” grade. That grade however is heavily reliant on the early season numbers and the show hasn’t been pulling those in months.
If The CW had renewed Secret Circle for a second season, the ratings would likely have been lower when it returned in the fall — lower still without a Vampire Diaries lead-in.
The CW has different standards for success than other networks and derives income from other sources beyond broadcast viewing. They also have just 10 hours of primetime space available. It just didn’t make sense to bring Secret Circle back for another season.
The series finale aired on last Thursday night, May 10th, so there won’t be any further resolution for the ongoing storylines.

What a shame this show looked like the story was going to really take off for season 2. This needs at least one more season. People live by the DVR for sure I HULU and DVR just about everyshow on.
i really do not appreciate them canceling the show like WTF ….im a die hard fan it would have been hard enough counting the days to the next season now this BS i am literally pissed i don’t think ill look at cw the same…..and i like secret circle better than vampire diaries anyway…..uuughhh!!! bring it back!!!!!!please..
I’m super pissed!! That is so messed up! It was getting mega good and it was like my favorite show ever! I can’t just never watch it again. Come on let’s start a protest! Looking at these comments I’d say we have a pretty damn good chance in protesting. *sighs* This is Sooo screwy -_-

THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!…. why da hell must they cancel it!!!!!!!!!… All they gotta do is have the writers make a juicier storyline, exaggerate the original storyline from the book!!!! AS THEY DO WITH EVERY TV SERIES/MOVIES THESE DAYS!!!!… Please please dont give up on it, give it another season, i guess write better storylines!!!!!… (the storyline as it is in SEASON ONE is already amazing as it is, mind u)… PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT CANCEL THIS SHOW!!!!!!!
What a bummer. I loved this show and it was really getting so interesting. So many loose endings. They could have gone so far with this great tale about witches. Such a shame
This is NOT fair. I love The Secret Circle! I was so upset that the season ended because it was getting to be so good. It shouldn’t be canceled!

I LOVEed that show!!!! I watched ever single episode! It can not just end! Why couldn’t they cancel won of their other shows like Nikita! That show would never live up to the high standards of The Secret Circle!!
That’s so stupid!!! I love the show, it’s just not fair and the CW is stupid for canceling it since there just isn’t very many good scifi-ey shows now a days. I was happy to have this show. Ugh.
Like the season finale was epic, but all the other episodes were kinda boring, due to the fact they barley followed the book’s storyline. But anyways I hope in the near future they bring it back, because now I’m left hanging on whats going to happen! Ahhhhhh!

stupid people cut this, yet shows like swamp people stay on. sounds like the same idiots in government are now running the network.
I’m a guy who watched and I’m a bit disappointed the show is done. I’ll miss Faye’s delicious cattiness and the lovey doormat Diana. If they hadn’t teased about the Balcoine relations coming, it would’ve been an okay finale…heck, some of them wanted their individual powers back. With John Blackwell gone, Adam and Cassie could hook up again.
I’m surprised THE VAMPIRE DIARIES still doing well, even though it’s been spinning its wheels with the originals, especially Niklaus. People I know who watched it are saying they are done with the show.
