At today’s FOX session at the TCA Summer Press Tour, FOX president Kevin Reilly offered some encouraging words about the futrue of The Simpsons.
The show hasn’t been renewed yet but he said, “I would anticipate The Simpsons to be on our air for a very long time.”
The Matt Groening series was renewed through its upcoming 25th season all the way back in October 2011. The show has been on the air since 1989 and is one of FOX’s best-rated series.
Season 25 is set to kick off on September 29th and the show will have aired more than 550 episodes by the end of the season.
What do you think? Do you watch The Simpsons on a regular basis? How long do you think it should run?
Personally I love the show and really would love it on until season 30
I still watch at least the beginning each episode and most of all of them. I have been watching in from the beginning (when I was 21) and it seems to be so haphazard now. Instead of a full episode, many of them seem to be just a disjointed collection of scenes. I DO hope the last episode, whenever that is, is longer than 30 mins and has a feel that a lot of time as pasted, bring back some old characters, and just generally give us the sense of a loss. I agree with Aaron, that Halloween will not… Read more »
PLEASE let the show finally end! A TV show should never last that long! They have been on for WAY TOO LONG! The show is a shadow of what it used to be…I hope it does not get renewed.
As quoted by Phil Hartman, as Troy McClure in the episode “The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular”… “Yes, the Simpsons have come a long way since an old drunk made humans out of his rabbit characters to pay off his gambling debts. Who knows what adventures they’ll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable? I’m Troy McClure, and I’ll leave you with what we all came here to see: hardcore nudity!”
The Simpsons are still going strong, but we’ve lost Phil. His is missed.
I remember watching this show when I was a kid. and I don’t watch it anymore as much. I don’t have time and is not as funny. My kids are not die hard fans of this show as I was. It should end this season RIP. GREAT SHOW 25 GREAT YEARS
Considering the ratings its still getting there are still plenty of people who still enjoy the show. So I say let the show go for as long as enough people are still watching to make it worth spending money on. No reason to get rid of it just because SOME of the older viewers think its no longer funny. I have never been one to think a show should die “on top” because in my opinion a show is always “on top” until it is canceled. If I like a show I want it to go on for as long… Read more »
I agree. This isnt like a normal show where there is an overlying story arch and you are still waiting 26 season to find out the secrets. We dont need a grand finale to answer all the questions here. Not sure why people feel they have to watch a show until it is over. When you stop enjoying it, stop watching. Simple. I stopped watching when it became stale for me. But about 5 seasons later I started watching again. Is it as good as it used to be? Not really to me. Its just a show I watch now… Read more »
I am a huge fan of the show and still love it. I make sure to watch every week it is on. I want them to keep it on for 50 seasons.
When the Simpsons eventually does end Halloween won’t be the same without Treehouse of Horror
I would love to see The Simpsons carry on as it has been part of my childhood that is with me. I’m 26 and I still love the episodes and I think its amazing to see an animated show lasting this long.
I still watch every episode – eventually. It’s not the appointment viewing that it was when I was in high school and college (dear lord I was in 8th grade when it started) and it’s not how it used to be I know that. Still, there’s something in every episode that makes me laugh and it’s still better than a lot of the “comedies” on tv. For me it’s good enough – “good enough” is good enough for me…
In this day & age, I normally cruise past most new shows and find them eventually on DVD or netflix.
But ask yourself, do you feel that the general state of broadcast comedies quality dropped so far, that a show that used to be funny still beats them out?
I love Futurama, it saddens me they are ending, but I’d rather see them end at the top of their game than them going on forever.
BYW, I am a big Archer fan.
I gave up watching the show years ago when it became clear that it was on the air too long.
Rewatching the first 10 years of the show was a blast, but the new episodes come of stale and unfunny.
Please Fox, let the show die. The shammering zombie you have bow is just painful to watch.
Despite the fact that I do not really watch The Simpsons on a regular basis, I hope FOX renews The Simpsons for a “farewell season” soon. I believe 26 seasons is plenty enough, and maybe there should be some creative closure for this show.
