After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
My husband and I really enjoyed watching this show together at the end of the week. This is one of the few shows we both enjoyed. I was really looking forward to watching it the last couple of weeks and I kept searching for it thinking that they had moved the time. I hate it that the first new TV show that I have liked in a year is cancelled before it has a chance to get an audience. I really hope someone reconsiders.
Well Fox Doid It again. The network that gives you the news spin doctors and trashy uninteresting sitcoms rejected a humorous intelligent comedy with interesting characters and an edgy yet funny storyline.
Don’t the networks realize that Fiday is death and changing any days in midstream is a no no.

I think that it is absolute crap that Fox canceled “The Wedding Bells” that is like the first show I ever watched religiously. It was DVR’d. I am so mad. They need to put this show back on the air. 4.5 mill, not enough for you? Well, how would American Idol stand up with 4.5 mill less viewers, seems like a bigger # now, doesn’t it? Put “The Wedding Bells” back on, it’s like the best show you have on Fox, why can’t you leave good enough alone?
I loved this show. I recorded it on my DVR every week. I would be a loyal viewer if it wasn’t cancelled. Bring it back please!!!!
I looked forward to Friday night television just to see The Wedding Bells. But as usual a network does not give a show a chance to catch on and it canceled the show.
No wonder it hasnt been on!! For the last two weeks I’ve been turning on the TV to watched The Wedding Bells and it hasnt been on and I’ve been upset about that! I did like that show, the cast and everything about it was awesome. Yeah seriously, I’m tired of seeing these nasty shows that are about deaths, cutting people open, and sex. I definately dont watch those and I dont care for them. I dont understand how those shows can get better ratings than a show thats clean, fresh and funny. And I dont know how someone could… Read more »
why does fox continue to take great shows away like windfall, reunion, and now wedding bells?! they hook me and then take it away. afer 4 episodes? come on. give them a chance before you cut them off.
I too am sorry to find out that The Wedding Bells has been cancelled. It was fun, witty and entertaining. A breath of fresh air in today’s “reality TV” atmosphere. I agree Friday night was an unfair slot for this show. Bring it back and put in a time slot where it has a fighting chance!!
I am so disappointed that Wedding Bells was cancelled. The show is entertaining, funny, positive and smart. Too bad the decision to cancel a show with so much humor, heart and merit was made. It was barely given a chance. Is there anything we can do to keep it on?
We also loved this Show!!! Please bring it back…Try Again!
I am upset this was canceled too! I’m getting married this September and my wedding planner and I loved watching it. It was smart and well written (IMO). Shame on FOX for pulling a decent show!
Give “Wedding Bells” a real chance. Putting almost any new show on Friday night will kill it.
I can’t believe they canceled the show, I am really pissed. It was my favorite show. I don’t watch much t.v but I made time to watch that. There are more shows out there that could be canceled, not this one.
well, not i know what happened to the show. just found out tonight after finally deciding to see if it had been moved to another night and i had missed a few episodes. it looks from the comments here that many ppl liked the show esp. including the men.. i also saw that 4.5 million ppl were viewing it and yall said the ratings had dropped.. duh… go figure when you move it to fri. nite where only us old fuddy duddies who dont go out to party would be watching it but we LOVED it!! as you can see.… Read more »
