Even though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.
Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.
The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.
According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.
It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that The White Queen won’t be continuing in some form? Are you glad that the story was designed to wrap after 10 episodes?
This was an amazing story, very dissapointed that this won’t be continuing. Plz plz plz continue the season
I loved the series and would love to see a second series
I loved the White Queen. I Hope they change there mind.
I am so so upset that I am having a hard time writing down my response to this utter tragedy. The costumes, the acting, the scenery and the storyline was magnificent. I have not seen such great acting in such a long time. I was so excited about getting to watch the love story between Elizabeth of York and King Henry. The historical aspect of the storyline is brought to life with great accuracy. I studied each and every character on Wikipedia and got so involved in the story that I was here online tonight to find out when Season… Read more »
how can they not continue it with an ending like that and not let us know what happens with tudor and elizabeth and whether beaufort gets repaid for the sons she kill etc??? that’s so unfair!!!!! ugggggh!!!!
i think it sucks they wont do a season 2 i dont care what from it came in i just loved this show from episode 1 and would love to watch more.
I’m upset that it won’t be a season two. I really liked this show and even recorded it when it aired. I was really looking forward to a second season, because I want to know what becomes of Elizabeth and her daughter. Wish they would change their minds. Why are all the good shows only one season?
I am horribly upset and very emotional right now! This was the most beautiful series I have ever seen in my life! I am 63 yrs old. I watched the full season and the watched the entires series a second time. When it ended anxiously went to the web to find out when the seconds season would start. I was deeply upset to read that there would not be a season 2!! This is a beautiful story , well directed and produced, with magnificent acting skill !!! Please please you must get series 2 to be released. !!! It should… Read more »
sad to say the BBC is financed by tax or licence fee on the british. This makes them answerable to nobody and what people think pointless. I hope starz can go it alone and make another series.
This is sad because I love the series, I sell HBO, Cin, Showtime, Stars, and TMC for a living. when my customers ask me which Premium channel is best, I always say stars. and one of the reason I use is this show. I think I must has started hundreds of people watching this show. now I have to come up with a new reason to tell them to buy Stars.
I’ve seen the commercial where Starz have been nominated for all these awards etc….and it shows White Queen. Why would you cancel a show if it’s been nominated so many times? I know one thing….I will NEVER watch another Starz series. I don’t care what it is. I thought me and my husband would enjoy the show that starts this month….is it *Black Sails* ?? Whatever it is….we won’t be watching it. I wish Starz would reconsider. It’s not only a ‘show’ it’s based on a true story. For some reason,we Americans love to watch things about the British. I am so disappointed the show won’t be back. I feel it should continue not only because the series was very entertaining, but because of the historical relevance that led to the Tutors, and King Henry the IIIV and his daughter Elizabeth who became queen, and last of the tutors. I feel the story needs to go on.
I have read the books and in the three books; the white queen, the red queen and the kingmakers daughter, all of the books ended how white queen series drama finished but I hoped and am still hoping they will do white princess based on Elizabeth’s daughter Elizabeth of York when she was queen. Fingers crossed they do come to their senses and realise his they left white queen wasn’t good enough and we want more.
I can not believe BBC has cancelled a great show The White Queen. I only ordered the channel to watch this show. Now I will cancel no point in having it anymore. Very upset now I will never know how Henery Tutor and Elizabeth we’ll rule and would Richard take the thorn when he grows.
i have to say that i really did find the white queen to be a very interesting and exilerating show that i have been waiting for. The not knowing, the history in it, waiting to see what would happen who would be king and queen. i have to say that i am very disappointed that there will not be a second season i was so looking forward to the seconed season. i hope that you do change your mind and make a second season. please rethink this and start the journey to making that second season.
I loved The White Queen. I couldn’t wait for a new episode on Saturday nights. I even studied each character on the net, to truly understand the relationships. Knowing where the story would go next, I mean, it is history, made it even more intriguing. Would love to see The White Princess come out…there is so much to work with, in the historical sense. At least till the Tudor line died out…did someone say “curse”?
