Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I thought it was great – I liked the idea that you didn’t know who would win the case unlike other lawyer shows.
My husband and I think you’ve made a big mistake. You haven’t given the show a chance. Many people didn’t even know about it. It was an intelligent program, one that wasn’t a cookie cutter story line. I think ABC needs to reconsider its decision.
My husband and I are very disappointed. We thought it was a very good show. It’s amazing what shows continue to stay on TV, even though there is really nothing to them. Some are mindless and downright offensive.
Great show! The Defenders had alot more ads for their show and I think people were drawn to it but I think TWT is much better. I like it because neither side would win each week.

The show is too good to cancel! Change the time slot and see if the tv audiences tune in.
There is great writing and subject matter and the cast is wonderful. Some shows take a while to catch on and then take off. It’s happened before! It’s heads above so many other shows that are still on.
BOO HISS! I LOVE THIS SHOW!
I have missed The Whole Truth since it hasn’t aired in a couple weeks and was afraid it might be canceled. It is a great show that I have enjoyed since it first aired. Try a different time slot! I have told people they should watch it!
A well-scripted, well-acted show, TWT is probably too evenhanded and thoughtful for a network audience. I’d love for it to be continued for at least another season.
We really enjoyed this program and are hoping that ABC will reconsider. We so looked forward to it on Wednesday nights, hurrying home each week from a meeting to watch it.
I have really enjoyed the show much more than the Dependers. Sorry to see it did not make it. I miss ‘Numbers’ as well.
The program was one of the better ones on TV. The actors are extremely talented. I belive that the time slot was bad. I think that they should attempt to bring it back again.
I actually really enjoy this show, and have found it to be a favorite. It’s thoughtful, insightful, interesting senarios, and happyly not full of chase scene, shootouts, special effects, all of which I no longer watch. Sorry to hear about cancellation.
I loved The Whole Truth. Please give it another chance. The Defenders is stupid & so is Cougsr Town. Why do you cancel all of the good shows.?Give it another chance.
very good show why did they air it during the time slot as the defenders both are good shows but should air at different time slots. It figures any show with intelligence gets cancelled.
