Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I am getting tired of getting interested in a new series only to have it cancelled. Sorry to see another show I like disappear from the airways. Nothing new…..
I loved it! It was a legal show with a new twist.
THIS Was one of the best new shows on for the fall season. It was not given a chance to build an audience. It needs to be brught back. Better than a lot of other shows. Now still on.
This sucks, one of the best shows on TV and you are canceling it!
It was a very good show. I TIVO’d it every week. There was very little advertising, compared to The Defenders on CBS, though. More time and more commercials probably would have worked. Also, maybe too many legal/police shows this time around-The Defenders, Outlaw, The Whole Truth, Law and Orders-which still are the best legal dramas ever! Also, I love The Good Wife!
Major bummer. My teenager daughters and I recorded every week and would watch it together. Knew it was to good to last. I figure 99% of the shows we watch will get cancelled. What’s the point?
I’m so disappointed that this show is being cancelled. It’s the only legal drama that really does show both sides of the coin. I guess I can hope for a miracle?!?
I am sad they cancelled The Whole Truth. I Tivo it every week and LOVE that show. Great cast, refreshing way to tell the story from both points of view. ABC cancels shows WAYYYY too early. They should give it more of a chance for sure.
A good show with a good, solid cast. ABC should take a chance and give it a little time to catch on.
It is definitely ABC’s fault. I’ve seen the show since the beginning and it’s amazing. I hope ABC can rethink their decision, this is the best show in network television right now!!!!!!
Another series ABC cancels before it has a chance. I looked forward to watching every week. ABC you suck
This show was good. Why not give it a longer try?
Sorry this series was terminated. As a former Judge, it was interesting to see just how realistic some of the shows were. Probably on any other night of the week except Monday this show would have made it but Wed night has too many good shows. Not sure what the Networks think about when they schedule shows, and what ever happened to trying to move a good show to another day or time slot. Too bad, it actually made some sense. NBC had dealt with the Outlaw in the same way. Very narrow thinking on the part of the Networks.
I love the Defenders… its probably my favorite show! But I also love The Whole Truth, we dvr it every week. The time slot is the only problem has! You are trying to beat The Defenders which has better known actors along with a lot more advertising!
My husband and I just started watching the show. We had never heard of it (which is ABC’s lack of advertising) until recently so we have been watching and we absolutely love the show. We love that we get the truth at the end. We currently love watching law and order shows along with the new show The Defenders but a mixure of both those shows is exactly what we needed and finally got it with The Whole Truth. We are very disappointed with the cancelation and hope that people start hearing about the show and may be able to… Read more »
