To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

i loved three rivers and am very disappointed that is got cancelled :{
I love the show three rivers and watched it every Sunday night. I believe that Sunday night football and the shows desperate housewives and brothers and sisters on ABC could be a contributing factor to why the shows ratings weren’t very high. The show might do better if the executives try putting it on a different day of the week instead of on Sunday when it conflicts with other stations shows that are also very popular. Please keep three rivers on the air and give it a chance to thrive on a different night.
CBS consider canceling Three Rivers – a really decent shows CBS need to reconsider and move Three Rivers to a better time slot. Three Rivers is a good decent show and compared to some of the trash that is broadcasted I can’t understand why you would considered anything but keeping it.
I totally agree with Carol. Sports is not everything in life. Give Three Rivers a chance on another night when people can know when to tune in.
OMG! I can’t believe CBS pulled the show. I thought that it was not showing due to the holidays until today when I saw an article that it has been pulled. I loved the show! It was so informative and had a great story weekly. It is my opinion that the network did not give she show a chance! Why does this always happen when I finally find something that I enjoy!
I’m very disappointed that CBS is canceling Three Rivers. The show was very good. I think the football messed up the regular time slot, and it ended up being on so late. It needed a better time slot, and another chance too. The show was much better than all those reality shows, they all suck. Maybe Survivor should be canceled, it’s crap, it been on too long.
My husband and I really liked Three Rivers. The stories were good and the acting was good as well. I would love to see this show continued. Putting a new show on a night when the start time is “floating” due to the unpredictable endings of the football games did not give it a fair chance. I agree that there are many other shows that should be cancelled instead of this one.
What a mistake to take this show off the air. I agree with the others who feel CBS should take off some of the reality shows. There is so much more depth to Three Rivers than a reality show that offers nothing. Three Rivers actually got me thinking about being an organ donor and how important it is for more of us to do that. Not to mention it was a great show and one that my husband and I looked forward to seeing every Sunday evening. Please bring it back!!
I really enjoyed the show and have been looking for it for several weeks and just now found out it has been taken off the air. I agree with Carol about canceling a good show and leaving the junk shows on!! I believe they never gave the show a chance and should try it again.
Why cancel the decent shows? I’m not sure Three Rivers even had a chance. It showed just a few times and then preempted. We could use more than reality and crime scene. Let’s have a show with a little depth and life.
I hope the execs reconsider and try moving Three Rivers to a better time slot for it. I am really tired of CBS. CBS Sunday night is almost always delayed due to some sports program. I know a multitude of people can’t live without their football, but I don’t like to watch sports on TV and if I DVR my shows, I missed the end. Just like CBS to cancel a great show like Three Rivers and leave junk like Survivor on.
IF THE BALL GAMES HAD NOT SCREWED UP THE REGULAR PROGRAMMING THREE RIVERS WOULD HAVE BEEN ON EARLY ENOUGH TO NOT BEEN SHELVED. CBS IS NUTS! TO HECK WITH THE REALITY CRAP!!BRING BACK A DECENT SHOW, HOW ABOUT IT?
i really enjoyed the show and will miss it. I watched that and then Brothers and Sisters
With all the crap CBS has on tv why pull a show that is at least kind of real. Not everyone is ******** everyone else. But I guess the viewers have a few loose screws. If they can keep “How I Met Your Mother” and the piece of crap that is on after it on the air I guess they are entertained by practically nothing.
I cannot believe this show has been cancelled. It was one of the only good shows on TV. I am so tired of reality shows and the gore from all the criminal shows. Three Rivers was like a much needed breath of fresh air. I guess game shows and HGTV will become my viewing sites.
