To no surprise, CBS has pulled their new low-rated crime drama, Training Day, from its Thursday night timeslot. The series is the latest entry in a list of CBS dramas — including Rush Hour and Pure Genius — that have struggled in the Thursdays at 10pm timeslot. However, fans of Bill Paxton’s last TV series will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Picking up some 15 years after the movie, the Training Day TV show follows Detective Frank Rourke (Bill Paxon). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. When the LAPD brass notices Rourke’s penchant for operating in a gray area to fight crime, they assign heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee to spy on him and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Training Day got off to a disappointing start on February 2nd, averaging a 0.88 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.73 million viewers. The numbers have gotten much worse as the weeks have progressed. There was a slight bump for the March 2nd installment, which featured a tribute to Paxton, but the numbers were still quite low for a network series.
After six episodes, CBS has pulled Training Day from the Thursday night lineup. The remaining seven installments will air on Saturday nights beginning April 8th. It will air at 9pm, following episodes of drama Ransom.
While CBS has not officially cancelled Training Day, there is little chance that the series will be renewed for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like the Training Day TV show? Will you watch the remaining episodes on Saturday nights?
Love the show. Bill Paxton was perfect in this role. Characters and story lines are good. Unfortunately with the untimely death of Bill Paxton, it would be difficult to continue. I wil watch to the end.
Yes I plan to watch the remaining episodes especially now that they will be offered on Saturdays when nothing else comes on except Ransom which I watch also! Now if you would just bring The Good Fight on regular TV any night my life will be complete!!!!! 🙂
I love this show and will continue to follow it.
Will be watching! If I can find next shows!
I fell in love with this series from the pilot episode. I loved Bill Paxton’s acting, but I think the rest of the cast does a fantastic job. I love the story lines, the songs played in the background and the human reality. I REALLY REALLY hope they find a way to keep this going without Paxton. The night it is aired doesn’t matter. I am in bed by 10pm and DVR most shows anyway.
I will watch the remaining episodes! I loved this show, mainly because of Bill Paxton’s character. I.was so sorry to hear of his passing!
Yes would love to watch it.it’s entertaining
Yes I will watch. I really feel that there was Not enough advertising. Really think this show would have picked up if you’ll would have given it a little longer.
I’m sad that Bill Paxton has passed. I’ve enjoyed his other roles. Have been watching training day, will watch the remaining episodes , on DVR.
Will watch the rest. Really like the show, mainly because of Paxon!
I enjoy the show. It does not matter to me WHEN the show airs (I PVR everything to watch when it is convenient for me). As long as I can still watch it, I am happy.
Definitely I love this series
Yes, I think it is a great show and will continue to watch the remaining episodes.
Bill Paxton was great, sorry to hear of his loss.
The show is very good, too bad it could not continue.
Just started watching the show. I like it, I just didn’t know about it. It wasn’t advertised much. Thursday at 10:00 is a bad time slot. I’m going to bed at 10:00. I will be watching and I’m watching back episodes on ON DEMAND.
Really good show. I would have hated to see this show cancelled if Paxton hadn’t passed. His snarky character was amazing and truly made the show worth watching.
I havent even started watching this yet.
