To no surprise, CBS has pulled their new low-rated crime drama, Training Day, from its Thursday night timeslot. The series is the latest entry in a list of CBS dramas — including Rush Hour and Pure Genius — that have struggled in the Thursdays at 10pm timeslot. However, fans of Bill Paxton’s last TV series will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Picking up some 15 years after the movie, the Training Day TV show follows Detective Frank Rourke (Bill Paxon). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. When the LAPD brass notices Rourke’s penchant for operating in a gray area to fight crime, they assign heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee to spy on him and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Training Day got off to a disappointing start on February 2nd, averaging a 0.88 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.73 million viewers. The numbers have gotten much worse as the weeks have progressed. There was a slight bump for the March 2nd installment, which featured a tribute to Paxton, but the numbers were still quite low for a network series.
After six episodes, CBS has pulled Training Day from the Thursday night lineup. The remaining seven installments will air on Saturday nights beginning April 8th. It will air at 9pm, following episodes of drama Ransom.
While CBS has not officially cancelled Training Day, there is little chance that the series will be renewed for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like the Training Day TV show? Will you watch the remaining episodes on Saturday nights?
I loved the show n will still watch if there is a next season!
We love Training Day! Of course, it can never be the same with Bill Paxton gone. Such a sad thing to happen. Having said that, I will definitely watch the last remaining episodes. I hope the show continues with season 2.
Training Day is one of our favorite series. We both really liked Bill Paxton. Will definitely watch remaining episodes on saturdays. Always enjoyed his performance in anything. Great actor!
We were watching the movie Replicant and we both agreed the actor Michael Rooker, has a similar, lovable but tough persona similar to Paxton. Might consider him as an addition to the series, which we hope will be back!
Bill Paxton was one of best actors Hollywood ever had. The man has only been gone a couple weeks and they want to cancel the show too? I checked a few different updates on the new time slot. One said Episode 7(which I was looking forward to tonight) airs tonight on 3/16/17, another 3/30/17 and another 4/8/17. Talk about total disrespect to Bill Paxton and his family. It’s like CBS doesn’t know wtf they’re doing at all. Bill Paxton died on 2/25/17, but not before finishing his job by completing the whole first season which should be honored!, not cancelled.… Read more »
great show except….the character Kyle Craig is annoying. total drag. this dude is always whining and can’t do anything right. get rid of him and keep this show going.
I agree with Van’s saying the show is great, but I voted thumbs down on his comment that Justin Cornwell (Kyle Craig) is annoying and a drag. And I also agree with wanting the show to continue in a way to honor Bill Paxton. I LOVE him and was completely devastated to hear of his passing. Prayers for his friends and family. God bless!
I really liked this series very much. Bill Paxton was very good in the roll and the rest of the cast was, as well. Bill Paxton will be missed. I am glad that we can watch the rest of the episodes. I certainly hope that you will be renewing for a second season.
I loved the series and especially loved Bill Paxton in the role. I will watch the remaining episodes. I hope that you will renew for a second season. I love the supporting cast as well.
I am a big fan of Paxton & very sorry about his death. I remember reading online when the show first came out he was happy with the show and encouraged people to watch. I don’t think he would want the show cancelled. Replacing him is NOT an option but his character could be killed in what appears to be an accident, but his team is not buying it. Bring in an old friend & Det of his who is like him and works by the same rules he does that agrees something isn’t right. Fingers can be pointing at… Read more »
I really enjoyed this series. Is there any way to keep it going without Bill? No disrespect, but, I feel like you have a really good team of actors to work with. I hope you can do it to honor Bill Paxton.
Thank you, God Bless
Bill IS the show. Without him it would just be another boring crime drama that CBS doesn’t have enough of already. Cancelling the show was disrespectful to Bill and his family. I guess Bill Paxton was too much for some people to handle.
please do not cancel training day I’ve been watching every week I love that show the guy that plays as the training is very Hot I’m sorry you heard that one that guy has passed away but The Show Must go on this show just got started so please don’t cancel it
Please return PURE GENIUS! IT IS OBVIOUSLY LOVED! Petitions have been signed to return the series, PLEASE GIVE PURE GENIUS ANOTHER CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this show. Bill Paxton has always been a favorite of mine. I will watch every last show. I am so sad that he is gone.
Love the show glad they managed to finish filming the series before the sad lost of legend Bill Paxton
LOVE THE SHOW I WILL WATCH THEM ALL.
