To no surprise, CBS has pulled their new low-rated crime drama, Training Day, from its Thursday night timeslot. The series is the latest entry in a list of CBS dramas — including Rush Hour and Pure Genius — that have struggled in the Thursdays at 10pm timeslot. However, fans of Bill Paxton’s last TV series will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Picking up some 15 years after the movie, the Training Day TV show follows Detective Frank Rourke (Bill Paxon). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. When the LAPD brass notices Rourke’s penchant for operating in a gray area to fight crime, they assign heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee to spy on him and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Training Day got off to a disappointing start on February 2nd, averaging a 0.88 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.73 million viewers. The numbers have gotten much worse as the weeks have progressed. There was a slight bump for the March 2nd installment, which featured a tribute to Paxton, but the numbers were still quite low for a network series.
After six episodes, CBS has pulled Training Day from the Thursday night lineup. The remaining seven installments will air on Saturday nights beginning April 8th. It will air at 9pm, following episodes of drama Ransom.
While CBS has not officially cancelled Training Day, there is little chance that the series will be renewed for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like the Training Day TV show? Will you watch the remaining episodes on Saturday nights?
Yes I’ll watch the rest of the episodes on Saturday nights. We’ve been enjoying the show and really don’t want it cancelled. We’re sorry for the loss of Bill Paxton and he surly will be missed but move it to another time slot. While I’m at it were also big fans of “Pure Genuis ” and we upset when they was cancelled. According to our TV last nights episode per the TV was suppose to air at 6 pm but all we got was the news. I just tried On Demand and again the news popped, any help finding out… Read more »
I really liked Training Day alot, I am 55 yr old single mother, and it is the only show my 19 yr old son stopped playing his video games to watch with me. I really hate to see it get cancelled.!!
Damn CBS Cancels shows that are just taking off. Stupid programming department. Put it on see the ratings climb. I’m done with CBS if they drop it.
Love this show. Liked it on Thursday, but will continue to watch on Saturday. Don’t think it could be the same show without Bill.
We liked the show. Definitely will watch the rest of them. Hopefully they will renew it.
I agree this was a great show and it should be left on Thursday so we can finish watching it. When stations do this I just loose interest in watching any of their shows for you never know once you are enjoying them if the network will pull them and I get sick of this happening. We might as well watch movies and not watch TV.
I loved the show and Bill Paxton deserves to have the show finish airing the last 9 episodes. Please don’t run it against Hit shows to give reason for canceling it.
i will record them to the dvr i really liked the show i thought it was just as intense as Scorpion.. 24 legacy …APB and all the CSI SHOWS i think they should put it back on thursdays until the season is completely over
I will absolutely watch the remaining episodes! I always have thought that Bill Paxton was never given his due and felt like he really grabbed this one…I love it! And, I’ve enjoyed the story line. We know things can’t always be “by the book” so I enjoyed getting to watch possible scenarios and really feel like another actor could pick up this role. Not meaning that Bill Paxton as a person can be replaced, but another can give another life to this role and continue what he started. Will keep watching and hope to see further seasons…
I will watch the remaining installments of Training Day… Probably the next day from CBS.COM. Although most of what I watch is on CBS-Broacast, mid April begins the new Season of Doctor Who on BBC America, and I won’t miss that ! Without Bill Paxton’s huge, gritty, larger than life “Cowboy Cop” character, I can’t imagine his team and the story line returning without him. I’d love to see his eclectic ensemble team of detectives continue in another show, but it’s not “Training Day” without Bill (may his soul be at peace). I did enjoy “Pure Genius” and would love… Read more »

loved the show
I heard training day is being canceled which makes me sad since it is one of my favorite shows and it was extra sad that Bill Paxton died because too me he was big part of the show doesn’t mean it can’t be worked out it just means need another actor too fill the big shoes of Bill Paxton don’t have to have the same characters name its the ideal of the name of training day meaning of a long time cop training a rookie which is the base story of training day and the cast is what you make… Read more »
