Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I cannot believe they are canceling this show. Its real, not about explosions and superficial crap. Stupid time slot. Why cant they just try again in a diff’t time slot. With all the garbage thats on TV, they should give this one another shot.
This sucks, I am an EMT in Maryland and I watch this show faithfully. It inspires me and helps me love my job that much more. I’m very disappointed and will be impatiently waiting for it’s return or another show like it.
I absolutely love to watch Trauma….Me being an EMT I can relate to it. This show has me on the edge of my seat every Monday night. NBC really needs to rethink about what they are doing. If the show cancels it will be letting down so many people. This is my favorite show!!!!
I’m very sad that nbc is taking trauma off the air.I have to say that is the only show I watch I pay a 150.00 cable bill so that I can watch the show.its the best nbc has had and best since ER.it seemed to show a little light on EMS.my husband being a paramedic it is highly unappreciated, well until this show.please bring back the show I think you wouldn’t be sorry
Stupid move on NBC’s part. It’s a good show and I hope another network will pick it up. NBC sucks these days, and just when it looks like they are getting a groove thing started …. they snafu it.
One of the best tv shows on tv and your going to cxl the show, dumb move and yet jay lenno is still on! WHAT ARE THINK.ING .
This show ROCKS !!! I don’t Understand why they are taking it away.. I guess cause it dont have alot of sex and Vulgar talking? This show rates a 10+ in my book. Looks like if this goes away I wont be watching NBC any more…. sorry NBC but you are losing a good show.. I dont even watch Mercy, that 1 time and Trauma has it beat 10 to 1
Does anybody know who we can contact to keep Trauma on air…First er now trauma come on this is sucks eggs….My kids are learning alot from them. My oldest loves the show more then any other one out there…
Hi Iam fan from England!!! Trauma should not be cancelled, it it a great show. Nothing else out there like it. Nothing on British TV is like it. All our medical drama’s are rubbish. I have many friends & family that love Trauma!!!
Trauma is an excellant medical drama. Why NBC would put up against 24, a show that has an 8 year viewership, and itself airing its series finale year. NBC must of had high hopes for Trauma. To dump it after it could not hold its own against a powerhouse series is cheap and unfair to the “mere” 6.68 million viewers who love this show as much as 24’s does.
Trauma should be renewed and placed where more people can appreciate it.
WOW its the most wonderful show that i cant wait to watch ! i watched all the episodes and everytime i learn a new thing .. i am a paramedic student from a arab world .. and really motivates u to do ur best at job ! and am so upset to know that this show will be CANCELED 🙁 they really do a good job and its the first time to see a show that focuses on EMS .. all the show are about hospitals and doctors … its the first time i feel that someone say to me… Read more »
I think this is a awesome show! Very life like! I am a paramedic and I love this show! My wife and I watch it every monday night! If they take it off the air this soon NBC can count on me not watching any of their shows!
One of the best medical, first responder shows ever. They normaly remove these good shows and leave the crud.
I am with Debbie, I liked Life, about the cop who was wrongly convicted and went to jail. Also, Kojack w/ Ving Rhimes as well as K*Ville, with Anthony Anderson.
I’m very disappointed that “Trauma” is being cancelled. I think it’s a good show. I always seem to like the shows that don’t last.
