Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

BOYCOTT NBC!!
It traumatized me to see that Monday night was the end. Shame on NBC for canceling a good show. What about the people that don’t like reality shows or Dancing with the stars. Come on NBC – You really messed up this time. I like Rabbit…. and all the rest of the cast.

Trauma is an exciting show that really delves into what it’s like to be an emergency responder. NBC has made so many screw ups; with the Leno/Conan fiasco being the all time gem. There are too many reality shows that are boring and all become the same after a while. Trauma, Miami Medical and Mercy are the best new shows out this season. I wish NBC would give this show another shot, perhaps another time slot. The regular Law & Order show is old and it’s time to get it off the air. Law & Order criminal intent sucks. NBC,… Read more »
Love the show!! So upset it wont be coming back.. I used to watch third watch and that left too… This was a great show and the characters were amazing…. It’s too bad.
i’m so sad that Truama is being cancelled its my favorite show so far this year there are so many shows on doctors and having a show on paramedics was so cool major disapointment …
I agree with Kristy. If NBC cancels Trauma there nothing left good to watch on that network. Maybe ABC will pick it up. I love Castle but nothing can replace Trauma!!
No I think Trauma is a great show I agree 100% with Kristy
Honestly this is really rediculous that they cancelled this show. REALLY HOW COULD YOU! I am hoping last nights episode wasn’t the last but I think it was since they didn’t show up coming show! This makes me sad and I WILL NOT BE WATCHING NBC any more. What a good way for them to cause people to boycott their station.
i am devastated that trauma may be cancelled, this is my all time favorite show and we tune in every monday. IT IS AWESOME PLEASE BRING IT BACK…….
Its sad that they are canceling Trauma! Instead of canceling this great show they take off some of the other crappy shows! Seems like Minute It To Win It is on every other night as well as reruns of Law & Order. NBC doesn’t realize that not everybody likes the stupid comedy shows, reality,& game shows they have.on .To keep Trauma on would be a great asset to NBC!
I agree, I hate the reality shows. There are too many of them and it is not even entertainment as far as I’m concerned. Bring back trauma. Nbc sucks anyway. Most of their shows are not worth watching. this one was. Maybe someone else will pick it up…hope so
I think they should leave on Trauma it may be a medical show but its not about a hospital. The last of any EMT show was Emergency. So If NBC does not keep it, I hope another station picks it up.
Why do networks cancel good shows? ??
T
Only the Dramas seem to get cancelled in this TV world of Reality TV, game shows and talk TV. This show has so much potential. Offer the series to TNT, FX or another station just as Southland was. The show is fast and has good stories along with the actors who bring the show to life. No matter how many TV shows I like they always seem to get the boot. What is it with the television world! It would be nice to have these type of shows on. How about putting more of these on Mondays/Saturdays/Sundays. Not all people… Read more »
Television generally is not my thing unless we are talking Sportscenter. I am your typical 24 years old male bartender going to school and trying to have fun. I love sports, cooking, and my girlfriend. As of lately I wanted to add something else to that list. Trauma. This show was funny and had deep character plots. All the characters were likable and some even hated at times. I thought there was plenty of room to grow for them and for us, the viewers. I am saddened by the cancellation and hope that it might return. If it does not… Read more »
go figure!! only people that watch TV these days are the mindless fools glued to every dumb and staged Survivor, Race–dancing and singing idiot shows, and countless police shows
there are so few dramas on TV and none of everyday heroes–
I’m really disappointed to know this awesome tv show has been canceled!! Trauma was for me the excitement of Monday night, I could not wait to get out of work, take a shower and tune in to watch it. I think a pretty mad move for NBC, and a sad effect on us. How can the stupid Chuck not be canceled instead??
