Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I am in the phone business, I think that NBC has not really given this show a chance, it made me feel good that there was people in the world that could show up on site when some one like me mess up with life and my life was in the balance, you have a lot of great actor’s that came together and make the show really worth watching, what more can I say, Trauma brought a light to the end of what is usually a bad Monday which is never a good day, the first day back to work,… Read more »
Trauma is back it’s been back has not been back very long, butt it’s back. And now it is on Mondays now and not Wednesday.8:pm central time.
i am an EMT as well and i love this show. Trauma has been my favorite show since it began and its sad to see NBC cancel it. NBC would rather show old eposides of Law and order than show new Trauma episodes. thats rideculous
I love this show, and am bummed out that it is not on tonight! I watched House for 3 years and am done with that, I could easily go another 2 years with Trauma…bring it on!
My husband and I are really dissapointed that Trauma has been cancelled. Whenever there is a show that we like, it always gets cancelled!
Aside from being BS, NBC has a lousy lineup and one would expect them to cancel the one good med show without pushing it further. The show had very good talent, good storylines and when the second half of season one came back on, it appeared to have a new writer and was moving in a new direction, which was wonderful. NBC is notorious for cancelling shows without giving them much of a chance. It almost makes a statement that you should not watch any new shows on NBC, for fear of cancellation. Bring the Trauma team back, give it… Read more »
I love the show. I would love to seen where rabbits and nacy’s relationship was going. Please bring it back.
I’m very disappointed that this show has been cancelled. I think this was an outstanding cast and every episode kept me on the edge of my seat!
I haven’t seen a show this good since ER was on. 🙁
so annoyed trauma is a great show i really hope theres a season 2
It never fails, when I good show comes on tv, the producers decide to cancel them. Trauma is a very good show and I really enjoy watching it. It is the same as Flashpoint and the Forgotten, the networks just go and cancel them. Then they bring on stupid shows like the Cleavelands, the Simpsons and so forth.
Why can’t they leave the good shows on like Trauma, The Forgetten and Flashpoint.
Very disappointed viewer.

Yes, this show does depict the life of paramedics and EMT’s in a city. NBC will cancel the show for sure b/c they are stupid. Let’s hope another network is smart enough to pick it back up.
