Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Trauma is a well written and well acted show! I looked forward every week to watch it because showed everyday life but also taught lessons in life, and now you’ve canceled it! You keep crappy shows on tv like The Office, The Marriage Ref, Scrubs, Wife Swap, The Simpsons, and Two and a Half Men,… all really stupid and degrading shows!!! Shows that kids watch, that teaches them how to disrespect people and talk down to people…. and everyone wonders why, kids now a days, treat people with NO RESPECT! Try thinking about the shows you put on tv and… Read more »
I love that show!!.. I don’t watch any other medical shows at all. But love the character interactions and situations that arrise needing their assistance. Too many excellent shows get cancelled and then I stop watching those stations who make those ill concieved decisions. You’ve just succeeded in a EPIC FAIL NBC… not going to watch your station anymore. Bye Bye.
This was a fantastic show! My husband and I looked forward to watching, and it was one of the few series we actually planned on watching the night of. The episodes got better as the show progressed, people should have just stuck with it for awhile. As the storyline evolved, it got better and better! Bring Trauma back…we miss the action and individual stories about the medics.
I only sit down for 2 shows a week, and Trauma was one of them. I REALLY wish they would bring it back!!!
I loved Trauma. I looked forward to watching it. They just got the plot going and now it is gone!
I hate that they are cancelling this show. It was one of the best.
I love TRAUMA – It is the perfect show for all the EMS, FIREFIGHTER groupies – Realistic and dramatic – Great timeslot for everyone – Please rethink letting me see RABBIT at work
Please keep Trauma on air. It is one of the best shows on tv. This is comparable to ER with a better cast. I started watching it in the fall and then not on for a while but recently came on and then re runs and/or shows of Law and Order. To the network executives, please keep it on. Don’t do another mistake like you did with Jay Leno and the Tonight Show.
i hope the guys at fox pick trama up
wow makes mad ive seen each show and they get better and better and then they yank the show ,,, i just googled it and now i no y my new show isnt on well i dont know how u know if i watch it ir not but i did and i liked it so nbc has no other show i like im 36 live in chicagoland ,,
god bless
I loved Trauma, it was a great show, good character interaction, was just getting really interesting when it went off the air. I agree, NBS needs to rethink its programming. Thank goodness we have Miami Medical, and Greys Anatomy, I don’t pay attention to what network they are on
ya i know i absilutly LOVE thatshow to. Ad its just plane out stupid that a station would cancle a show an d leav you on a cliff hangger. I am so made right now! they should atleast continue this season and finish the season off so that the viewers are not in suspence on what s going to happen next. no offence to the TV station but who ever decided to cancle that show well in my opinion he/she is a complet idiodic ASS.
I loved Trauma !! Rabbit was my favorite character. I hate to see it
cancelled. I did not like Mercy !!
At least give Trauma one more year, but find another time slot where
it does not have such heavy competition.
let’s cancel the networks and watch cable
Since we all seem to be upset by the cancellation of Trauma, perhaps a wiser venue would be in the realm of possibilities. I think if we all band together and write to CBS, who is undergoing ranking changes, perhaps they will pick up the show. CBS seems to be the station with the most watched shows so… this would be an ideal spot for Trauma, same day, same time, better station. Please write to the following: Chief Executive Leslie Moonves. Two other longtime CBS executives, Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, president of CBS Television Studios.… Read more »
this makes sense NBC has no clue what they are doing. they should cancel on the top brass, maybe then they the network would keep some of the better shows that these yahoo’s have cut.
