Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I loved this show! I hope they bring it back. Mercy was also a very good show, I don’t know why no one liked it. Bring it back to Thursday nights where ER used to be, it’s a better time and people will watch it after t heir favorite comedy night. Shows like the Marriage Ref are so stupid, put real drama in that time slot!!
I am very sad that both Trauma and Mercy are being cancelled. I look forward to seeing both shows. I would like to see what happens with Veronica and Chris. Will they get back together? The plan crash??? Any survivors????
Then theirs Rabbit… What about him? Will he ever be normal again? He has been so troubled since the chopper crash… what will become of him? There are so many questions and I am just bummed that I will never get the answers….
UGH and VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Of all the dumb shows that keep on being aired on tv, this very good show, with good stories (except one boring episode where the newbee reads his stories from everyone), great actors has to be cancelled. That’s a damn shame!!!
I love Trauma! Please don’t cancel it! Do more advertising or marketing or something. I truly look forward to it and tell everyone to watch it!
BUMMER!! All the good shows that are normal are going off air! SICK of psychic shows and talking to the dead shows!
PLEEEEAAASSSEEE!!! bring TRAUMA back !!! I love the show–i am a nurse and it is sooo real to me–i really get into the episodes and look forward to every monday night!!!
There is not too many shows that i truly look forward to….but TRAUMA is definetly one of them!!
Bring TRAUMA back !!!!!
I feel exactly the same way. I am a nurse & medic and actually screamed when I heard TRAUMA was being cancelled. I love this show!
Please bring TRAUMA back!!!
I loved Trauma! It was such an intense show, but had me laughing, too.
It also gets kudos from me because in one of the early episodes we found out the character Glenn was from Pennsylvania and went to Kutztown University…my alma mater!!
I would love to see the series comeback or at least put closer on it. I mean, you left us hanging in the last episode when Rabbit saw Nancy and Glenn kissing. What happens?!?!
BRING BACK TRAUMA!! : )
BRING BACK TRAUMA!!!!!!!!!!!…………I WON’T WATCH ANOTHER PROGRAM ON UR CHANNEL IF IT DOESN’T COME BACK
VERY sorry to hear that it was Trauma that was cancelled. I think Mercy is too unreal, too soap opera-ish. Trauma was great in that it showed what paramedics really dealt with! It was well done, well-developed and the growing audience bears witness that it was catching on. I think networks are too quick to drop a show. They move them around so much it is hard for fans to find them and then they drop them before we can get a good grip on them.
Hope someone ‘up there” is listening! BRING TRAUMA BACK!
My family and I love this show. It has really taken the place of ER and will be sorely missed!!!
What a bummer I liked this show I also enjoy mercy glad only one got canceled. Hopefully after all the disappointment trauma will brought back in the fall
This has been the best medical drama since ER. I am so disappointed! Bummer NBC. Guess I’ll watch House reruns.
Trauma is my favorite show. Always, always looked forward to watching it. Am VERY disappointed in the t.v. network.
Trauma should have NEVER been cancelled. I love that show. NBC what are you thinking???!!!??
you finally get a great show and you cancel it? my co-workers and i loved to talk about this show the next day we all work in a hospital and loved this show and all the actors in it. i hope you bring it back. also mercy is a great show to please dont take that off. thank you
