In October, NBC decided not to order any additional episodes of the low-rated series, Trauma, essentially canceling the show after 13 episodes. Then, a few weeks later, NBC ordered three additional installments, likely because they anticipated holes in their spring schedule and the show’s producers were able to significantly cut production costs.
The show’s been off the air since November but the network has now announced that it’s coming back. Is there a chance that the show could actually see a second season?
Taking place in San Francisco, Trauma follows a group of first responders who risk their lives to save others. The cast includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The network recently announced that they were cancelling The Jay Leno Show as of February 12th. That means that, when NBC finishes airing its coverage of the Winter Olympics, the network will have five more hours of primetime to fill. That’s good news for Trauma.

NBC has announced that Trauma will be returning to Monday nights starting on March 8th. They’ve also just ordered three additional episodes, bringing the season total to 20. That means that there are 10 new episodes of Trauma to come.
If the new episodes of Trauma can attract significantly more viewers, the show might have a very good shot at being renewed — especially if the show can continue to be produced economically.
At the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour, Angela Bromstad, NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President, didn’t rule out the show having a future and the new episode order is certainly promising.
However, NBC has plans to beef up their pilot development for next season. The network will develop 10 dramas and eight half-hour comedies. For Trauma to get a spot on the 2010-11 schedule, the low-rated series will have to inspire more confidence than the new shows.
What do you think? Do you think Trauma has a real chance at survival or is it still doomed?

Please keep trauma. Its a great show!!! Im so tired of getting attached to a show and everything gets cancelled just keep it!!!
I’m so hoping that Trauma will return for the 2010-2011 season. I think it is one of the most sophisticated and well written shows on Network TV. I absolutely love the characters and eagerly await each episode to witness their evolvement. Indeed it does just keep getting better and better.
Nothing will ever take the place of ER, but Trauma definitely fills my medical drama void. The cast is awesome and the stories are great. We’re just starting to learn more about every character and to take this Grade A show away would be a disaster.
Thanks Demented that was a great post. I watched the season finale tonight, it was a great show. All the characters are showing more of their past and their personalities. The only problem was while I was watching it, i kept thinking are they going to bring it back, or what. I have been starting watching CBS, alot more different shows that I know are going to stay on. I refuse to watch re-runs, or the lame show “A Minute to Win It”, another stupid reality show that has already been renewed. We can probably all look forward to some… Read more »
You really should keep Trauma on the air! My husband and I really enjoy this show. It is the best medical drama on tv since House!
Trauma and The Good Wife are the only great dramas on network TV these days. Mercy and Brothers & Sisters are good mind candy, but lack the intensity/great acting on the other two. No wonder I am not much of a TV watcher!
I keep hearing people say there’s nothing good on NBC anymore and thought to myself “Really? I thought there were a lot of good shows” So I started looking through my channel guide and realized I share the same opinion. Chuck and Trauma were the only shows I found that would bum me out if they were gone (On NBC). I watch Mercy too, and like it also, but I wouldn’t cry if it was gone. So we have to wonder “What the hell’s wrong with the network exec’s?” It’s no wonder the network is floundering. Like a drowning person… Read more »
I just watched Trauma on Hulu because I was not able to watch it on monday night. What a great episode, this one brought me to tears. We are finally getting to see some background information on the characters lives before they came to work at the Trauma unit. Once again, I ask you to please renew this great show. when you renew “A Minute to Win It” we all ask ourselves what are you doing. The only reason people watch it, because they have no competition on the other channels. Do some promo spots for Trauma, like you do… Read more »
Please give Trauma a second season and not change the schedule. iT WILL SUCCEED……GIVE IT A chance
Please keep Mercy and Trauma they are great and I am so sick of REALITY SHOWs…give them both a second full season and don’t keep changing times and nights…give them a chance
My husband and I love this show!! Don’t cancel it – we are getting to know the characters, and love to hate nancy’s Dad. Where did Dr Joe (Jamey Sheridan) go? He was great. Don’t cancel this show. We tried watching Mercy and it didn’t catch our interest like Trauma does. Give it another chance!!
WHY DOES THE NETWORK ALWAYS CANCEL GOOD SHOWS. GET A CLUE GUYS, NOT EVERYTHING IS A HALF HOUR COMEDY SITCOM. BORING!!!!! KEEP GOOD DRAMAS …FOR A CHANGE
I just watched Trauma from last night on Hulu tv on-line, i missed last night because I was watching 24, since it will be cancelled May 24. I know once May 24th is over so many fans will now watch Trauma, please don’t cancel, this episode was so good, that I will watch monday night, and watch 24 on Hulu. I think these characters are evolving into great people. A lot of shows take time for people to finally watch, it took forever for NCIS, now its the #1 drama on. Why does NBC give us constant re-runs of Law… Read more »
This show continues to mature. The characters, relationships and setting provide an almost endless supply of material from which to create episodes. Please, give it a longer chance. Remember, NCIS, one of my favorites, didn’t take off right away, either.
I agree with Nicole…. NBC doesn’t have any good shows on anymore. I was so excited about Trauma coming on & now they want to cancel it. I’ve watched every episode & it just keeps getting better. If your a Law & Order fan it works out good. I did like Law & Order Criminal Intent with the original characters & they changed it & I don’t care for it. SVU is good if its not a rerun. I really hope they keep Trauma on.
