Move over Outlaw, NBC has cancelled another new series. The spy dramedy Undercovers is ending its run after 13 episodes.
Undercovers revolves around a married pair of former spies who are pulled back into service after their close friend goes missing. The TV show features the talents of Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mekia Cox, Carter MacIntyre, Gerald McRaney, and Ben Schwartz.
The series stumbled right out of the gate and attracted a disappointing 2.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.7 million viewers. In week two, the demo fell by 24% to a 1.6 rating and the numbers essentially kept on falling. Last night’s episode hit a new demo low with a 1.3 rating and 5.913 million total viewers.
Though NBC ordered four additional scripts in mid-October, the studio suspected that that show’s been doomed for quite awhile. Today, the network made it official — Undercovers has been cancelled.
It remains to be seen if fans of the series will get to see all 13 installments. Seven episodes have aired so far and three more are scheduled for November 10th, November 17th, and December 1st. NBC has a Shrek holiday special scheduled for Thanksgiving eve (November 24th) and The Sing-Off will take over the timeslot on December 8th.
Three episodes of Undercovers will be left on the shelf at that point and the network will decide at a later date if or when they’ll air.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Undercovers is coming to an end? Why do you think it didn’t catch on? How would you have fixed it?

Very upset, we watched it every week – very exciting compared to what NBC has on now.. Very disappointed with NBC. You take Undercovers off and adds the Cape – really. A show about a man in tights…OK NBC and then you leave us with a cliff-hanger wanting more but you take them off…sad
It was nice to see a show that was not afraid to cast Black actorsin starring roles with white actors. I loved the story lines. I am tired of the same old boring sitcoms and dramas. This was interesting, exciting, and fun. I hope NBC will reconsider.
We both love this show. For once there is a show with action, intrigue, family fidelity, humor…please do not take it off. It deserves to have a chance to catch on.
I loved the show and something different to watch as well. I’m dissapointed that its ending and please bring the show back or let another network air the future shows.
My husband and I loved the show. Now what? some stupid
reality show? Come on people get a clue. Your shows are set up to
appeal to the teeny/20’s or the senile. What have you got for the
rest of us?
I LOVED the show (Undercovers) The couple was refreshing. I think the time slot and day hurt the shows performance. 9pm would have been the best choice. I hope one of the cable channels pick the show up. I think if the network would have given it a chance it would have been a sleeper hit.
I am extremely disappointed that NBC has decided to cancel this show. They didn’t even give it a fair chance. The characters and storyline were great. Not sure how well the show was marketed prior to it airing. It sure beats a lot of the “reality TV crap” that gets aired. It was very refreshing to be able to watch a show with an interesting story. Makes me wonder if the race of the main characters did in fact have to do with the show’s quick demise.
Was beginning to really watch the show and then it
disappeared and I was surprise to hear it had aired again. I
thought it had cancelled and so I wasn’t looking to see it appear
again. That might be why the ratings on the last episode were so
low. No one knew it was coming back on again. I think the networks
don’t give new shows a chance to catch on.
NBC sux the big one, every time they push the envelope with new shows they never give them a chance to flourish. No wonder they are behind in the ratings, they just don’t get it.
This show was set up against Survivor on another major network. Survivor has been around for at least 20/21 seasons. Undercovers is a very good show. I watch the new Hawaii Five O and I would like to watch more new episodes of Undercovers by JJ Abrams and staff. I am not loyal to networks, but I am loyal to programs /shows. The Cosby show and Frasier are two that I viewed faithfully for years.
I CAN’T STAND HOW THEY DO SHOWS WITH STRONG BLACK CHARACTERS!!!!!! IT’S A GREAT SHOW! THE LAST COMMENT IS CORRECT, DONT TAKE IT OF THE AIR, MOVE IT TO USA, THEY HAVE A COUPLE OF SPY, DRAMA & MYSTERY SHOWS THERE. JUST DONT TAKE IT OFF THE AIR ENTIRELY!!!
Best looking cast EVER! Split them up on different shows and reap the benefits.
To many beautiful people and the viewer pays more attention to the cast and less on the plot.
The networks never give anything but cookie cutter shows time to catch on. Black spies, though the prettiest black people I’ve seen on TV, just aren’t mainstream enough for broadcast tv. NBC would have done better to use their cable network for this show. I would home they would consider it for the USA-Network.
The same thing happened to Frasier, but look how that turned out.
I love the show…always tivo it for later no comericals. way better than some of the crap they put out now adays. I want it to come back. The time was great. Not sure how to fix it…because I love everything about it. the cast, catering cover-up…alll was A+A+A+A+
