Move over Outlaw, NBC has cancelled another new series. The spy dramedy Undercovers is ending its run after 13 episodes.
Undercovers revolves around a married pair of former spies who are pulled back into service after their close friend goes missing. The TV show features the talents of Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mekia Cox, Carter MacIntyre, Gerald McRaney, and Ben Schwartz.
The series stumbled right out of the gate and attracted a disappointing 2.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.7 million viewers. In week two, the demo fell by 24% to a 1.6 rating and the numbers essentially kept on falling. Last night’s episode hit a new demo low with a 1.3 rating and 5.913 million total viewers.
Though NBC ordered four additional scripts in mid-October, the studio suspected that that show’s been doomed for quite awhile. Today, the network made it official — Undercovers has been cancelled.
It remains to be seen if fans of the series will get to see all 13 installments. Seven episodes have aired so far and three more are scheduled for November 10th, November 17th, and December 1st. NBC has a Shrek holiday special scheduled for Thanksgiving eve (November 24th) and The Sing-Off will take over the timeslot on December 8th.
Three episodes of Undercovers will be left on the shelf at that point and the network will decide at a later date if or when they’ll air.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Undercovers is coming to an end? Why do you think it didn’t catch on? How would you have fixed it?

OMG!! Y would u cancel a show that is freakN awesome!! Boris is already a hollywood vet n the rest of the cast are nothing shabby either!!….every1 chant NOW!!!…… Bring it Back!!!…Bring it Back!!!…Bring it Back!!!…:O
I really liked this show. The couple had great chemistry. It was refreshing to see a black couple highly intelligent with successful businesses (including the Undercover one). There are not a lot of shows that portray black in such a positive light. It will be missed. Maybe USA will pick it up.
I can’t believe it. Very sorry to see it go. It was hot, classy and all of the above! Not Fair, please continue the show Please!
The concept of the show was great and exciting. The African American couple was perfect. “Sam” was stunning and smart. I loved to see a black couple used as wonderful hero models.
Please bring it back without the over-the-top corny CIA assignment agent.
When a station cancels a show they could at least wrap up the series by telling the ones who watched the secrets that were implied. Such as: Why the Blooms were brought back in the CIA.
I was hurt that the show was cancelled. Please bring back with better writing.
Under covers was a decent show, but not great. The concept was jurist and the lead characters were a hard sell for an American audience. If NBC plans to air another show with Black leads, they’re going to have to do a better job of crossover marketing. Here, they didn’t do any and as a result, the show didn’t catch on with whites or blacks. From a writing standpoint, it was pedantic and overly hammy. The bumbling side kick character who was meant to bolster the male lead’s credibility, simply wheeee up making the show farcical. It’s unbelievable enough to… Read more »
Damn, I love the show. I feel like if it was given another chance that it could be a lot more successful. Im a Chuck, Burn Notice, Human Target, etc. fan, really any sort of spy or agent-like show. This was what I began watching to add to the list. J.J. Abrams always makes good stuff, Fringe for instance, and so being that he is a veteran Im pretty sure that he has made something worth keeping around. NBC, I implore you to reconsider this choice, there are too many variables to kill a show before the first season even… Read more »
I love Undercovers. Don’t cancel it!
NBC doesn’t know what is good or bad.
UNDERCOVERS is a great show. Different. The chemistry between the two leads is wonderful.
NBC=DUMB
My husband and I really liked the Undercover show, it seems like lately that everytime we start to like a new TV series it gets cancelled. We are getting where we don’t even want to start a new series because as soon as you get really interested in it then it gets cancelled.
NBC set the show up to fail. Boris was correct to not believe the network was serious when he was contacted about the part. The premise is great, as well as the supporting actors. I am a very busy law student. I am on law review, moot court and have many other school responsibilities. I found the time to either watch the show on television or Hulu. I am highly upset. I only have leverage and burn notice now.
Love this show. Depressed now. Please bring it back.
It was nice to see a show with some African American folks and no less their characters having substance. The writing could have been a little less corny for my taste, but that can always be improved upon. Why throw away a show so soon, as someone said, move it to USA if you feel that you need to lose it off of the network, or move it to another time slot and not put it up against one of their highest rated shows….c’mon, what did they expect…..ARGH!!!!!!!
So sorry this show has been cancelled. I was really starting to like it! Maybe it will get picked up on one of the cable stations.
