One network has already passed on Underground. Will another step up to saved the cancelled WGN America TV show? Deadline reports Sony is still searching for a way to save the series.
The historical drama follows the heroes of the Underground Railroad who harnessed every bit of their wits, strength, and grit in order to escape slavery and live as free men and women. The cast includes Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Jessica De Gouw, Alano Miller, Christopher Meloni, Marc Blucas, and Reed Diamond.
After WGN America cancelled Underground in late May, the cast and executive producer John Legend told fans the show would hopefully continue. For awhile, it was rumored OWN would pick up the series for a third season. However, that dream came to an end earlier this week when Oprah Winfrey revealed the network has passed on Underground due to its high production costs.
Now, Deadline reports Sony Pictures TV (the show’s production company) is shopping Underground to networks like BET and Hulu after both Netflix and OWN passed. It seems Sony is willing to pursue all options in order to save Underground.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Underground? Which network should save the series?
Please save this show.
This show needs to find a new home. I thought OWN would surely pick it up. She airs Tyler Perrys empty shows. This show comes with an audience. I am so disappointed that one of the best shows in my line up is gone without warning.
Underground would be a good fit for own. It comes with its own audience and this story needs to be told. These are the stories that aren’t taught in schools. I am devestated
Please try to save this show. I truly believe that this is a story that needs to be told. This is the first time for me showing support for a TV show like this. It’s extremely important for people to become educated to the plight of slaves and this history.
Honestly one of the most educational, riveting, edge of my seat shows ever. Please find a way to save it! Please!
Underground is one of the best series I’ve seen in a long time. I hope it is saved, the actors, the settings and everything about the show is so real. It would be a pity to lose such an outstanding program.
I watched both seasons this year. I am so addicted and now so very, very disappointed if this doesn’t get picked up by someone. Thanks to all who have made this such a great show. John Legend please don’t give up.
I THINK IT BAD TO CANCEL A SHOW THAT SO MANY PEOPLE WATCHED THEY START THE SHOW NEVER FINISH , PLEASE KEEP TRYING TO FIND THEM A CHANNEL I LOVE THIS SHOW
Please Oprah, pick up this series. I acknowledge there are many fictional parts but this series is unlike any other “slave” drama. The historical aspects are unmatched to what we learned in our history classes. It is extremely informative and empowering to youth and others who value personal freedom alike. This series has effectively demonstrated the fortitude and perserverance of African Americans and their supporters when the world kept insisting on slaves being considered as property. If not OWN, maybe another company can pick it up to perhaps play on Netflix, but please, someone, don’t let this series just die.
I really enjoyed the show and was hoping it would continue. I would definitely watch. Thank you all for trying to keep it going.
Keep trying , this program is worth the effort
Thank all involved for trying to save Underground. Keep up the good efforts.
Thank you Sony and John Legend for working hard to save underground. Please don’t give up.
I really hope Sony finds a network for Underground. The show is intriguing, historical and educational. Thank you Sony and John Legend for not giving up!
I am very surprised that OWN did not want to sign on to produce Underground due to the cost- maybe if the costs could be cut down a little another network would pick it up. Thank you John Legend for not giving up!
I would be very excited to see this show continued and yes I am very surpised as well to find out that Own did not pick it up tooo
OWN paid for both seasons, so be thankful we even saw those. Do you have $5 billion dollars an episode?
OMG! Are you serious and sure! maybe 5 million an episode, not 5 billion. Don’t fib to prove a point.
