The aliens came and, despite some ratings challenges, they are staying — for at least one more season. ABC has renewed the V TV show for a second season.
Like the original, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they’ve come in peace, their ulterior motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.
The series got off to a strong start in November with a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.3 million total viewers. At the time, it was the highest rated debut of the 2009-10 season. Unfortunately, a large percentage of those viewers didn’t return for the second week. Episode two brought in a 3.8 rating and 10.7 million.
Week three dropped yet again, to a 3.1 in the demo and 9.26 million viewers. Thankfully, the ratings decline evened off from there. Unfortunately, due to some backstage issues, ABC put the show on hiatus for several months.

When V returned, the show’s ratings were understandably lower than they had been. Still, the drop could have been far worse than it was — attracting a 2.8 in the demo and 7.03 million viewers. The numbers later slipped to a low of a 1.9 rating and 4.87 million.
But now, in the final weeks of the season, V is starting to show a little growth. Last week’s brought a 2.1 and 5.37 million. This week attracted a 2.3 and 5.69 million. These increases seem to mirror the growth in its lead-in’s viewership (Lost) but they are increases nonetheless.
While it would seem that ABC should realistically cancel V, the network has a tradition of showing some faith in one or two struggling programs each year. It would seem that V is one of those shows. According to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum, ABC has renewed V for a second season of 13 episodes.
Will this gamble pay off? ABC has had mixed results in the past. Samantha Who? didn’t work out while Castle has grown nicely. With an ongoing sci-fi storyline, V isn’t exactly the type of show that’s inviting to new viewers. Perhaps the network has a plan. Time will tell.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that V has been renewed for season two? Are you surprised? What would you do to boost viewership?

I luv the heck outta this remake i like it better then the first so please just let the show continue til the end i hate tht i get hooked on these shows then u all take them away if u even only have a millon ppl watching the show i think it should be worth airing and u knw wht sometimes it just take a few seasons to get ppl hooked
I love this show! Dont cancel it!!!!!!
You flip the “v” upside down you get the Illuminati pyramid—its based on a real conspiracy, swap demons with Reptillians, (the old Mayans sacrificied human hearts to reptillian gods) just think demonic possession as reptilian possession. Psychics have seen Reptillians standing next to or “inside” a lot of our world leaders there’s an Internet pdf “the worlds biggest secrets” check it out it’s a quick 2 min download by David Icke. If it gets cancelled the reason is it’s to close to the truth, they did the same thing with Battle Star Galactica when it was at its peak just… Read more »
I am an avid watcher. I love Sci Fi. I think the last episodes were terrific. The writing was brilliant!! The story line can’t be beat!!!
I am extremely pleased that they gave V another season. The show has real character if people would give it half a chance. Unfortunately it seems that most folks only decide to tune in if a show promises to be drama filled, with piles of overacting. Glad to see that ABC is still, as dependable for diverse showings appealing to all audiences, as usual. I will continue to tune in to ABC.
Thank You ABC, God Bless
When will season two of “V” will come out on DVD . Thank you. for the remake off “V” it’s good to fine out there’s good people out there…

@Ernesto S.: Too early to know. It hasn’t even aired on TV yet.
Incredibley good show. Don’t cancel!
I was very upset to hear rumors ABC canceled V. I saw the preview for the 2nd season today and I was excited to say the least! Thank you for giving it a chance ABC! People are now just hearing about it. Word of mouth from big mouths like myself can go far in making lackluster ratings into a big hit! You did your part and I’ll do mine to get everyone I know to watch!
I am glad ABC is giving V a chance. I enjoyed the first season and would like to see further development of the story. I hope that if ABC decides to cancel after Season 2 there will be an opportunity for closure. Special effects are impressive.
What do the executives think when there are so few Sci Fi shows that are around any more. V and Caprica and that’s about it. Do they think Sci-Fi fans just go into hibernation? They should continue this show for a third season! I guess its up to the fans to watch, now isn’t it?
I am glad V is returning. my wife and I enjoy it very much. Peace always.
Thank you for not cancelling V. My wife is not a sci-fy fan at all but she really really enjoyed last season. Just keep it going. I could be wrong but didn’t Star Trek struggle at first.
I keep asking myself ‘what is wrong with these TV execs?’ I mean, they allow these great sci fi shows to run for a season or two, and then they cut them as we are hooked. They do the same thing over and over. I almost wonder if the Execs are themselves really aliens who don’t want viewers to experience how these plots proceed through completion, as it may usurp the REAL alien invasion plans. lol Come on execs, you made the decision to let the shows run in the first place, take a chance and let them move through… Read more »
i love this show! dont canel it!
I really enjoy the show. I am an over the road trucker, I just bought season 1 DVD since I am unable to watch it regularly so I hope they do continue. I enjoyed when they redone Battlestar Galactica. I hope they take it to the end
