The aliens came and, despite some ratings challenges, they are staying — for at least one more season. ABC has renewed the V TV show for a second season.
Like the original, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they’ve come in peace, their ulterior motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.
The series got off to a strong start in November with a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.3 million total viewers. At the time, it was the highest rated debut of the 2009-10 season. Unfortunately, a large percentage of those viewers didn’t return for the second week. Episode two brought in a 3.8 rating and 10.7 million.
Week three dropped yet again, to a 3.1 in the demo and 9.26 million viewers. Thankfully, the ratings decline evened off from there. Unfortunately, due to some backstage issues, ABC put the show on hiatus for several months.

When V returned, the show’s ratings were understandably lower than they had been. Still, the drop could have been far worse than it was — attracting a 2.8 in the demo and 7.03 million viewers. The numbers later slipped to a low of a 1.9 rating and 4.87 million.
But now, in the final weeks of the season, V is starting to show a little growth. Last week’s brought a 2.1 and 5.37 million. This week attracted a 2.3 and 5.69 million. These increases seem to mirror the growth in its lead-in’s viewership (Lost) but they are increases nonetheless.
While it would seem that ABC should realistically cancel V, the network has a tradition of showing some faith in one or two struggling programs each year. It would seem that V is one of those shows. According to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum, ABC has renewed V for a second season of 13 episodes.
Will this gamble pay off? ABC has had mixed results in the past. Samantha Who? didn’t work out while Castle has grown nicely. With an ongoing sci-fi storyline, V isn’t exactly the type of show that’s inviting to new viewers. Perhaps the network has a plan. Time will tell.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that V has been renewed for season two? Are you surprised? What would you do to boost viewership?

V series is great. I usually do not watch series because I think they are geared to teenagers and are too mushy mushy or have corny store lines. V is the complete opposite than I expected. After watching the original as a kid and loving it, I decided to give this one a chance. I do not regret it! It has everything you are looking for in a series. It is like a long exciting movie that never ends. It has suspense, drama, fx, action, etc. What more can you ask for. We need to let them know that they… Read more »
I think v is great!! i love please keep the episodes coming, don’t make us(the viewers)wait
so long for the third season and so on.
this show is pure evil and most people have no idea what they are watching. this whole show is based on luciferian and illuminati principles.
I loved the 80’s series v. even though it was made in such a b rated way. I would love it if you could bring back some of the original cast members. thank you to already bringing back one.!!!!
I am glad that V returned, my husband and I like the show. When the second season was started back up they needed to refresh everyones memory to what went on in the last epidsode. I wish they wouldn’t wait so long between seasons.
can’t get enough of v
YES LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
The Season 2 premier of V was kind of like a botched surgical procedure; leaving desperate viewers with a debilitating, incurable infection, that will likely result in a full review by the board, and eventually a revocation of the license.

This is the first show since Law and order that I make sure I tape while I am at work. I am so excited that it is back. The acting is superb!!!!!!!
The new series of V is brilliant! I really hope that ABC do not cancel its support for the production of the show and that it continues to be aired for the UK audience…. Channel One was showing the first series of V but it seems that channel one will stop broadcasting in 2011, so where will the second series of V be shown??
I just watched the whole first season in 2 days, commercial free and wondered how I missed it last year. It is terrific, well written, acted, story line stays interesting episode to episode. I am psyched for the season opening on Jan. 4 th.
so glad they are making another series my monday nights would be a desert of rubbish and repeats I say bring it on ABC you will be making my day
My son and I watch TV series on DVD when they come out since our life schedules don’t include prime time television…let me tell you…WE LOVE THE NEW V!!! My son is 9 and busy looking up things on V on his computer now since we just finished the first season…we both were upset that it was over and are eagerly awaiting the NEXT season of V!!!
great news! let’s play the V second season. I bet scenarists will give us much suspens!
I’d say make the show available in the EU via Hulu.
Watch the ratings soar.
