The world of network television can be a confusing and scary place, not unlike Wayward Pines. TV shows can disappear without any explanation. A show can be touted as a big success and then, the next week, it’s gone. So, how’s Wayward Pines been doing? Will it survive to see a second season? Should it stick around? Cancel or keep it?
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series premiered in mid-May to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.76 million viewers. It wasn’t an impressive start for a new scripted series but FOX had made the pilot available online for a week at the end of April.
That may have been one of the reasons that the ratings grew in week two — by more than 20%. Episode two garnered a 1.2 in the demo with 4.589 million viewers. The numbers have fluctuated a little since then but they’ve essentially held steady. Thus far, the season’s averaged a 1.15 in the demo with 4.04 million.
While the ratings certainly aren’t very impressive, Wayward Pine’s relatively small audience seems to be pretty devoted and consistently watches. What’s more, FOX has been having a hard time establishing scripted series and this is their only dramatic offering thus far this summer.
While the numbers could certainly be a whole lot better, I suspect that FOX will renew Wayward Pines for another run for next summer.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines series? Would you watch a second season? Cancel or keep it?
Keep it
No doubt. KEEP!
Please keep the show we’re getting rid of so many when they don’t even get a chance it’s a great show it’s fun to watch let’s see if we can keep one of them around for a little while
Keep it
Definite keeper. Husband is addicted, need this to continue.
Keep it… i am somehow magically hooked
I love this show and you did keep Grace land. I need to see all of this thru so please DO NOT CANCEL THIS PROGRAM grow a pair and let it play thru.
You realize this website has no control over these decisions? That’s up to the stations.
Hope they keep the show. My husband and I really like it.
I’ve seen most of M. Night Shyamalan’s films and was happy to watch Wayward Pines.. Haven’t yet guessed the “reality” of the town; so many questions every episode. I started comparing “…:Pines” with “The Village”. I bought the “official explanation” as told to Sheriff Matt….for 15 seconds. Too many questions: 1. The Village founders from present day banded together – came up with a story made to keep everyone from wandering – and structured the society from an earlier time period. Wayward Pines does not exist in the future, because: a) a present day agent reached trapped Pines agent (leader… Read more »
Keeper
Keep it.
Keep it! It’s gotten a lot better and I want to see it through. I hope FOX doesn’t cancel it.
We LOVE this series! I can’t believe that there’s even a question about bringing it back.
All too often the very best shows go POOF and it never makes sense. How do they determine who is watching? Because nobody ever asks us…
I love the show, please keep it on. There are very few clean movies on t.v. i watch it with my grandson who’s 14yrs.
There is no reason why the trilogy of novels cannot be told in 10 hours and after that (having read the books), there really is nothing left to tell. They’d just be treading water.
Agreed. Good and one season is enough. I thought it was a one year event also.
I have been watching the show “As Greece Turns.” It seems to be playing on every major network. I can’t wait for the next episode.
