The world of network television can be a confusing and scary place, not unlike Wayward Pines. TV shows can disappear without any explanation. A show can be touted as a big success and then, the next week, it’s gone. So, how’s Wayward Pines been doing? Will it survive to see a second season? Should it stick around? Cancel or keep it?
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series premiered in mid-May to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.76 million viewers. It wasn’t an impressive start for a new scripted series but FOX had made the pilot available online for a week at the end of April.
That may have been one of the reasons that the ratings grew in week two — by more than 20%. Episode two garnered a 1.2 in the demo with 4.589 million viewers. The numbers have fluctuated a little since then but they’ve essentially held steady. Thus far, the season’s averaged a 1.15 in the demo with 4.04 million.
While the ratings certainly aren’t very impressive, Wayward Pine’s relatively small audience seems to be pretty devoted and consistently watches. What’s more, FOX has been having a hard time establishing scripted series and this is their only dramatic offering thus far this summer.
While the numbers could certainly be a whole lot better, I suspect that FOX will renew Wayward Pines for another run for next summer.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines series? Would you watch a second season? Cancel or keep it?
Keep the show I never miss it. If I’m not going to be home I record it.
Please keep this show! I haven’t enjoyed watching television this much in a long time. I would hate to get swept up in this and not have something conclusive.
I am hooked. Keep it!!
KEEP IT!!! I love this show. I was hooked from the pilot!
Show is fantastic. Keep the how going!
Keep it!
Weren’t we told THIS too was a 10 episode series? They will have to STRETCH the end result just like CBS is doing too with _Under the Dome_…based on a Steven King story
WHATS THE DEAL ??? Is there THAT MUCH stuff in the writings they can plagiarize for TV?
CRIPES! I will watch regardless…
I love Wayward Pines, keeps you guessing and gets more bizarre every minute. Can’t wait for the next episode
DEFINTELY KEEP IT!! My daughter and I haven’t missed an episode since it started and hope to NOT miss one. It is GREAT to see a different type of show. Unfortunately every time there is a GREAT SHOW that is different and as good as this it ultimately gets the axe. I believe the networks are one, too afraid of a success and two, afraid of going outside the norm and listening to more than JUST the YOUNG demographics they usually listen to. These days, it seem there are less of them watching TV and MORE outside that age group… Read more »
Keep it but renew for 1 year. If things start falling apart, let it have an ending.
KEEP IT!!!
Keep it. It’s very addictive. Please keep the same people on here for the next season.
Yes keep it! We enjoy watching it! It is refreshing to see something different. A lot of the shows are so close to being the same….cops finding killers or people working in hospitals….. Would love to see another season and the they are advertising “Gone”. Keep em coming!
Definitely keep Wayward Pines! !!
Storms knocked cable out last nite and I missed 7/2 episode, bummer! !
